If a coup d'etat was truly the intent of a bunch of undisciplined partially armed red necks, then it was a poor attempt at best.

But let's not exaggerate events as to do so is both irrational and passionate.

Imagine if those who supported remaining in the EU had stormed Parliament whilst it was in session debating the various Brexit bills. Imagine if Labour supporters stormed up Downing Street because they didn't like the 2019 election result. Imagine if anti-monarchists stormed into Buckingham Palace because they did not support the monarchy.

Now imagine if any of these three events occurred and Parliament, or Downing Sreet, or Buckingham Palace were looted, desecrated and stole from. Now imagine if Parliament was in the middle of a debate and had to be suspended, or if the Queen was in the process of signing into law an Act of Parliament, but was stopped by a mob.

You state "Let's not exaggerate events as to do so is both irrational and passionate."

Trump encouraged his supporters to "fight like hell" to "take back our country", and to march towards the Capitol. Trump's supporters subsequently stormed the Capitol building, during the Electoral College vote count - a count to uphold and certify the democratic will of the American people. IED's were also found.

Now imagine if these supporters had managed to burn the electoral college votes - which they cold have well done without the quick actions of the staff of the Senate. Imagine if they took members of congress as hostages - which could have well of happened. Imagine of the IED's had gone off and blown a hole in the Capitol - which again, was a possibility.

If anyone should take a step back - it should be yourself. If you don't understand the gravity of what happened, or the potential of what could have occurred, then I am truly sorry that your political viewpoints have clouded your vision of reality.

At the very least, this was a mob incited by the sitting US President attempting to overturn the democratic will of the American people, who were allowed to storm the US Capitol due to a monumental security failure.
