Nation of ecologists

Middle Barael wrote:Lore Question of the Week
1) What major wars has your nation fought in or contributed to?
2) Has your nation ever had a civil war (in relatively recent history)?
3) What was the biggest crisis for your nation to face in its modern history?

1. NoE has fought in one war, the Brazil-Amazonian Civil War, which eventually gave Nation of Ecologists independence in 2025. The war began as a simple grassroots protest movement in the Northwestern section of Brazil, after Bolsonaro's scandalous re-election in 2022 (he won by only 100,000 votes and it was seen as a rigged election). After protests gained in popularity and riots broke out in Manaus, the military was called in and ended up committing the Manaus Massacre, in which over 10,000 protestors were killed. Since the movement realized that the Amazon would not gain independence peacefully, the Amazon Liberation Front was formed as a pro-independence militia, and civil war broke out soon after. For about 2 years, a bloody conflict would rage on between the Brazilian military and ALF, but in 2025, after about 50,000 deaths and over 10 billion dollars in property damage, the Brazilian Government conceded defeat. The war was seen as being similar to the Vietnam War, with the ALF having a massive advantage in knowing the terrain. NoE has since rebuilt after the conflict and abolished it's military, with the ALF dissolving voluntarily.

2. While NoE participated in a civil war, it has not had one itself. There have been some very minor calls for parts of the country to secede back to Brazil, but this hasn't really amounted to anything.

3. Because NoE is so young, it has not had many crises, besides the 2026 Amazon Forest Fire, which was set by unionists who were unhappy with NoE separating. It required 10 separate teams of smokejumpers to put out, and it destroyed over 20,000 acres of rainforest. Besides that, the Amazon has regrown and flourished since independence.
