Question of the Day:

How is recycling handled where you live? Do you think it could be improved?

The Azalea Princess wrote:My recycling center accepts single stream recycling, which includes cardboard, paper, aluminum, and all marked plastics. All of which is expected to be clean of contaminants like food and tape. A separate service accepts a type of food waste to be used in insect farming, which includes all food, but no paper or biodegradable matter that would be acceptable in compost.

We recently were told that glass would no longer be accepted for recycling, which is curious as it is one of the easier materials to gather. I'm aware of the limits of single stream recycling and have no viable ideas for improvement locally. I do wish there was a community run scrap metal disposal service. Scrap metal always holds some value, but it can be hard to transport, and people are prone to collecting it without proper, safe containment until they can move it. I feel like a community run truck and legislation against residential scrap storage would help the environment and appearance of the area significantly.
