My tax rate keeps going up. I'm not getting any options to reduce taxes, the few cuts I've made have spiked crime :/ taxes just seem to keep going up
That's pretty normal. It is possible to lower taxes through your choices (and also just as possible to rapidly increase them). There was a point years ago when my taxation was at nearly 100%(!) when an issue arose that allowed me to eliminate all military spending in a single action (the game translated this into "the military now hold bake sales to raise funds") - it revealed that my armed forces had been consuming half the budget.
