Today, the Heads of State of the Member Nations of the Collective Security Treaty Organization have decided to officially invite the German Democratic Republic to join the CSTO. The accession of the German Democratic Republic will make our peoples safer, the CSTO stronger, and the Euro-Eurasian area more secure. The security of the GDR is of direct importance to the Collective Security Treaty Organization, including during the accession process.

The CSTO is a defensive Alliance, and poses no threat of aggression to any country. The CSTO remains the foundation of our collective defence and the essential forum for security consultations and decisions among Allied nations.
