My fellow Japanese citizens, it is truly an honorable moment we have today. I stand before you as a sign of change, and better change at that. In this society, we are taught that women are lesser than men, but as I stand here today, as President of Japan, I prove that everyone is equal. Any man, woman, or general person can achieve anything if they put their mind forward. As President of Japan, I will move forward with that attitude. If we think forward and progressively, we, as a nation, can advance and do many great things.

For far too long, we have stuck with tradition. Tradition has stagnated us and we have slowed our progress. We once led in technological advancements but fell behind because we didn't embrace change. We fell into tradition and was left behind until the moment we decided to push for change. I can promise you that as President of Japan, we will push for change. That change would be for a better Japan, a bigger Japan, and a safer Japan. We will be seen as the shining star that we are on all horizons.

It is past time to make full amends to those we have wronged in the past. Holding your head high when it should be leveled shows that you do not care, and that attitude contributed to our stagnation. Our economy has began to stagnate, and I vow to change that for the better. Our population is plateauing, and we will work against that stagnation, as well! As your new President, I vow to take Japan into a new prosperous era. Our new golden era!

Internal briefing note: Japan’s new President
~ Politics Directorate, Department of State for External Affairs

CONFIDENTIAL

Secretary of State,

As Japan (Vashnal) chose its new President the Directorate looked into her party’s policies thoroughly. We advise you to be cautious with the new administration. In her victory speech, Akiya Komi talked about “a bigger Japan”. Additionally, one of the ideologies that the party has embraced is “militarism”.

It could well be possible that our Province and Island of Jeju will become a target for the new president if she continues to express her desire to expand her nation. We advise you to raise this matter in Cabinet as soon as possible. We furthermore advise you to establish formal relations with Japan so that we can improve our current relation and have extended communications with the new administration.

Furthermore, we advise that a detachment of the Royal Naval Forces be sent to the area without any delay, and to raise the issue with the local authorities as well. To this end, the other relevant Departments will receive a copy of this note.

Congratulations Are In Order From Jakarta

At the top of the massive staircase leading up to the raise Senate Building stood the Grand Chancellor, various government officials, security personnel, and a multitude of media representatives. Populating the open plateau situated at the top front of the building, the high vaulted ceiling was people's up by enormous stone pillars that flanked either side of an entrance hall leading to the actual Senate's entrance, the hall exposed to the open air. Numerous security agents slinked among the shadows monitoring all communications within a several kilometer radius of the vicinity, as well as actively patrolling the grounds, some in plain sight whilst others remained hidden from the naked eye. The sounds of the press asking a wide variety of questions to the Grand Chancellor following an extensive Senate convening could be heard throughout the echoing halls.

Behind a podium with numerous speakers, the Grand Chancellors continued answering questions until she motioned for a specific press representative to speak, his particular question catching her off guard. "Grand Chancellor, what is your official stance on the newly elected Japanese (Vashnal) President, Akiya Komi?"

Holding her breath for a second before speaking, she began to tread carefully. "Running for office in any nation is no easy task, let alone a highly developed nation such as that of Japan, there are a great many obstacles in place along the winding road that seems to be an uphill battle for most. Akiya Komi was even further disadvantaged due to her culture generally frowning upon females taking up the mantle of a leader, much less the President of the entire Japan. Nevertheless, despite all odds, Akiya Komi has pushed through and made a monumental moment in history for the people of Japan and surmounted her obstacles. I believe this is telling of her character, her ambitions, and her aspirations. I believe that congratulations are in order from Jakarta, to President Komi."

The Grand Chancellor smiled at the camera and continued answering questions, knowing she'd simply put off the inevitable of figuring out exactly where Japan laid within Eulumian interests as it seemed that Japan had territorial expansion ambitions, and Eulumia wasn't about to allow itself to be subjected to another occupation, the nation suffered at the hands of Japan in WWII and will not allow history to repeat itself.

Valeria II to push corporate social responsibility

This afternoon, the Empress convened CEOs of several of the largest Infinian companies to discuss Corporate Social Reponsibility. For too long, many corporations have been able to solely benefit themselves, and at all not the broad society, or depriving the earth and society of valuable resources to further only a marginal set of customers, fostering socio-economic, cultural, and racial inequalities. The Empress has long agitated against this behavior, decrying it as 'systemic, Mogadishu-endorsed crony capitalism.'

The Empress set down with large names within Infinian business, such as Vaso Vulkan, Mellissa Bozovic (CO-CEOs of Malatech, a shipbuilding company), Jozef Hezibu, a philanthropist and CEO of Medinfiny, the most prominent pharmaceutical company, Dusan Volin, CEO of the mining corporation, and Larisa Axey, the CEO of the largest Infinian e-commerce company, Vabozy, alongside tens of others. They have discussed the raise of a minimum wage, universal health care, a basic income, guaranteed maternity and paternity leave, proportional and flexible gender and racial quota, environmental sustainability, active anti-harassment rules, transparency, and much more. The talks will resume tomorrow, although the Empress has commented that 'a great amount is expected, especially since we have had a very constructive dialogue today.'

Representative Saphiyele Retaya of Culek, who has long agitated for more corporate social responsibility and an end to 'unethical capitalist domination of the Infinian people' has reacted with hope. ''I'm immensely excited to see what real change we can achieve with the right people both in charge and taking charge,' she commented.

President Akiya Offers Clarification from Inaugural Speech

Earlier today, after many questions about a specific part of her inaugural speech, President Akiya clarifies what she meant by "a bigger Japan". Her statement is here:

"I understand the implications that statement can have when looking back at the history of Japan. I can assure everyone, however, that I did not mean 'a bigger Japan' in the sense of territorial expansion. For those who live in the North Chinese peninsula of Korea, the islands of Hokkaido or Okinawa, the island of Jeju, or any other land surrounding Japan, you do not have to fear us. As we wish to live in harmony with everyone, we expect the same of everyone else. Under my administration, a bigger Japan focuses on economic and geopolitical growth. Nothing more and nothing less.

Now, I will clarify something else that has been held against me. While the Democratic Party of the People focuses on militarism, it does not have the ambitions of pre-1945 Japan. We just wish to strengthen our military to make sure we are not a target, and to make sure we can retaliate on those who wish to disturb the harmony we wish to preserve in both our region of the world, and the world itself. Thank you."

This statement comes after a surge of concerns arose on social media inside and outside of Japan. President Akiya noted that while people have all right to question everything she says, she hopes that people view her character before making judgement on her words.

PIB2 News - Several Marches Planned Across The Nation as Japan Focuses on Re-Militarization

As President Akiya tries to "clarify" her words in rapid fashion, citizens of Pangluan are organizing protests in response. Citizens from several cities across the commonwealth are expected to participate in organized marches against the Japanese re-militarization plans, as well as in response to statements from the newly elected President Akiya's inaugural speech. An organizer of the protests in Tilwijk said that "while we appreciate the president's supposed clarification on her statements in the inaugural speech, we will still march against the Japanese re-militarization goals. We must remember in this age all people in power tell lies at some point." The protests are set to take place during the weekend in Tilwijk, Hong Kong, Taipei, Cebu, Sanya, Davao & several other cities. According to the official Facebook event posting for Tilwijk over 30,000 people have signed up to participate in the march. Local police departments in these cities have stated they will be present to keep the peace and direct traffic during the marches. The government has so far remained quiet and not given an official response, with the Prime Minister deliberately ignoring questions about the newly elected Japanese leader earlier today at a Q&A session with reporters.

The Central Committee of the Socialist Unity Party of the Danubian Socialist Confederation has announced the formation of a new body within the Ministry of External Affairs. Known as the Ministry for the International Cooperation Council, this body will be exclusively in charge of coordinating all cooperation and communication between the Danubian Socialist Confederation and the International Cooperation Council Organization. Comrade Máté Tamás, the currently appointed representative and ambassador of Danubia to the ICC has been appointed to lead this organization which has been granted a location within the reconstructed Vienna International Center, close by to the International Cooperation Council Headquarters located within the Zone. It is believed that a dedicated organization can better organize our efforts to grow and assist the International Cooperation Council and its efforts both within Danubia and beyond.

Rumors Circulate of Anyaberek's Ilness

Rumors have circulated in many national newspapers after leaked documents from the central committee claimed that President Anyaberek (Emilie Stauffer) had suffered a stroke at her office in Budapest in the early hours of the morning and had been rushed to hospital. Concerns had been brought up in the past about the health of the 76-year old president and whether she would be able to handle leading the nation after the horrors and stress experienced both in her failed Budapest Revolution, her exile and fighting in the Danubian Civil War. These rumors have not been confirmed and so far the Central Committee have refused to comment on questions regarding the matter. We will bring you more information as it arrives.

Aberdeen Proving Grounds, Maryland

Maj. General Irving Morrell watched as the Grant finished the last batch of testing before it stopped several yards away from him. As he walked towards, the crew of the tank started to climb out from their assigned spots and noticed him approaching. Waving off their salutes, he spoke to the tank commander, a young Lieutenant

"Well Lt. Marks, how does she handle? Is she good for service?"

The Lieutenant, a newly minted officer from West point, had a smirk on his face as he replied

"Sir, begging your pardon for speaking plainly but the beauty.." patting the side of the turret as he faced Morrell "Would run circles around the old Glasgow, no doubt about it. She's better armed, faster and offers more protection than the older models. Plus with all the latest sensors and the new HUD in the Commander's Cupola, I could shoot the a** off a flea at 5 miles without killing it. Hell, I could likely give a haircut to some poor SOB at the same range."

Morrell, laughing a bit at the candor the young Lieutenant was showing, changed tactics

"So you feel the Grant is ready for full-scale production or are the any issues you and your crew haven't found yet?"

Lt. Marks shook his head before replying

"I'd like to say it's more than ready Sir but I want to make sure we've uncovered all the issues so I'd say another month or so and she'll be ready to go into production."

Morrell nodded in agreement

"That's exactly what I want to hear Lieutenant. Better to be sure we get everything uncovered instead of finding out the hard way in battle. take at least 3 months to finish up Lt. Marks and then we can go from there."

Marks saluted as he stood up from the turret

"Yes Sir General. I'll get right on it after chow if need be"

Morrell returned the salute as the crew left to go to the mess hall, still lightly chuckling to himself

Aberdeen Proving Grounds, Maryland

Maj. General Irving Morrell looked out over the assembled reporters and officials as the rather cool wind blew across the training grounds. Collecting his thoughts he approached the podium to speak

"Allow me to thank you all for coming today as we unveil the latest tool in our nation's arsenal. I'm sure many of you are more than a little curious to see what your tax dollars are paying for and trust me, we're not just spending it on how to make the perfect toaster oven"

This got a laugh out of the crowd and Morrell chuckled before going on

"Many of you are more than familiar with the Abrams line of tanks now in service with both the Army and Marine Corps. But today, allow me to introduce the newest member of the nation's armored force!"

As he finished, a low rumble was heard by the crowd as the Grant rolled out onto the training ground, looking like it was ready for combat in Europe or some other far off battlefield. The reporters and military and government officials all clapped their hands as the tank came to stop near the stage. As the crew disembarked, Morrell spoke again

"Allow me to introduce the M7A1 Grant Main Battle Tank. Armed with a 135 main gun and fitted with 2 M3B Heavy Machine Guns and capable of reaching speeds in excess of 60 MPH, the Grant is the fitted with the latest in cutting edge weapon systems and protection. It can hit a moving target at up to 5 miles and is protected enough to ensure the crew will survive all but the most powerful tank guns and bomb hits. The Grant is also sporting some of the most advanced sensors ever fitted onto a mobile weapon system before and dare I say can run circles around even the best other nations can offer at this current time and beyond. It is my firm hope that the Grant will remain in front line use for many years to come, ever adapting to an ever changing battlefield. And much like its namesake, the Grant will shock and awe its foes into submission or destroy them. Thank you all for coming today and I hope we meet again in the future to see what new toys we can cook up."

As the crowd of reporters, officials and other guest clapped, Morrell grinned at his aide and said under his breath

"Now we see who flips their lid first: Moscow or Puerto Deseado"

Floods :(

Severe floods in North Chosun have killed at least 22 people and left four others missing, according to the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies. According to officials from the Board of Works, the floods have also caused widespread crop damage, intensifying economic concerns in a subdivision that already suffers from a weak economy. The Board also reported that nearly 40,000 hectares of crops have been damaged and 17,000 houses destroyed or inundated.

According to local media sources, “lots of roads, bridges and railway sections were broken, a dam of a power station gave way, and there was severe damage in various regions". The Korean peninsula has seen a much longer than usual monsoon season. Parts of South Chosun recently saw 49 consecutive days of rain, causing floods and landslides that killed dozens of people.

However, many note that North Chosun is particularly vulnerable to flooding. It lacks adequate infrastructure and suffers from widespread deforestation, which resulted in part from people cutting down trees for fuel or firewood or to clear land for farming. The floods have also thrown a spanner to a plan to redevelop and industrialise the region, meaning that it could take years for the country to rebuild and shore up its defenses against natural disasters.

The Board of War is currently providing relief to support 2,800 families, including family tents for people most at risk, tarpaulins, shelter tool kits, kitchen sets and quilts to help people with their urgent needs. They also provided hygiene kits, water containers and water purification tablets for affected households. The Viceroyalty of South Chosun had offered help, donating over $4,500,000 USD worth of funds for humanitarian purposes. The Province of Beihaidao, and the Viceroyalty of Liuqiudao subsequently deployed a combined number of 400 doctors and aid workers to the flood-stricken region, in the hopes of accelerating recovery.

This has been the latest hit to the nation's economy since the Southern Rebellion a few years ago, of which the government is attempting to recover from. The Board of War has deployed over 5,000 Manchu Bannermen to help the local government, stressing the importance of "a quick recovery".

Anyaberek Announces Retirement, Emergency Election to be Held

Emília Anyaberek Stauffer has suddenly announced her retirement as president and first consul of Vienna after she was inflicted with a number of health problems and suffered a stroke at her office in Sándor Palace, Budapest. Forever remembered as Anyaberek, the mother of the realm and its people. She spent her whole life fighting for the cause, being a leading figure in the first Budapest Revolution of 1968 and a major publisher of left-wing works during her exile in Leningrad. She helped bring the left revolutionary army to victory in the Danubian Civil War, created the socialist unity party and united and rebuilt the nation.

With this retirement, the Danubian Senate will convene to elect on of its own members into the presidency. Rumors are now circulating as to whom will run for the position, but only time will tell who will put their name forward and who will inevitably come out on top.

Imperial Eagle wrote:Congress approves new floating power plant design

Congress, after a lengthy debate, has approved funding for a new type of low-capacity nuclear power plants that can be used to power port construction projects or locations near ports that require power but can't be sustained by normal means. The new designs will be the first of their kind to be mass-produced and be fitted into custom design hulls and towed to their locations they are needed. Each floating power plant will be fitted with a RMWR type reactor and have all latest safety features built in so as to prevent any accidents from occuring. The first of the new floating power plants will be named MH-1A Sturgis and upon completion, will be sent to New Panama and power construction efforts ongoing there in Lake Gatun. Follow-ups will be used around the nation and in the event of natural disasters, be sued to power regions suffering from power outages. Total cost for the project is slated to be just over 20 Billion but each unit, complete with hull, will cost around 20 million. The reason for such a high funding number a person familiar with the project is due to maintenance and cost over-runs.
