A 7.4 magnitude earthquake has striked the Japanese island of Taiwan causing damaged and tilted buildings especially in the Hualien Prefecture with it being reportedly the strongest in 25 years to strike Taiwan. Huge landslides have been reported across Taiwan and train service has been suspended across the island. Internet outages have also occurred and around 26 buildings are estimated to have collapsed according to the central emergency operation center.

The Emperor as commander in chief of the Imperial Japanese Armed Forces has authorized their activation and deployment in Taiwan to assist with rescue efforts and rebuilding.

STATEMENT OF THE ISLAMIC COUNCIL OF IRAN

OOC: This is a mainly Shia and moderate Sunni (not Salafist) Islamic organization, an NGO supporting Muslim rights in Iran.

The Muslim woman is a man's equal. She is given the responsibility of child bearing, of fidelity to her husband, and other great gifts of true importance. The woman deserves her own freedom on equal aspects to a man in the home. Throughout history, strong Muslim women have been shown and proven under the eyes of Allah to be capable of the same responsibilities as men. The niqab and burqa follow an example of the woman's duty of modesty, upholding their duties as stated in the Qu'ran. This Council condemns the Iranian Government's attempt to ban such articles of clothing, as a secular government should govern secular laws regarding the welfare of Iran.

The burqa and niqab, however, remain outdated articles of clothing from olden eras, where women were thought to be mere extensions of men with a truly barbaric and unjust interpretation of the Word of Allah. History throughout Iran has shown that Muslim women can indeed lead, and should not be subject to such rules regarding the burqa and niqab. This Council condemns the wearing of such articles of clothing on women due to their restriction of the woman's true self, but respects the decision of those that decide to engage in such methods of following the word of Allah.

ISLAMIC NIQAB AND BURQA LAW REMOVED FROM DEBATE FOLLOWING ISLAMIC COUNCIL'S STATEMENT

The original proponents of the ban on the niqab and burqa have retracted their bill in the Mehestan. In a brief statement, the group said that "the statement made by the Islamic Council of Iran regarding the wearing of such articles of clothing show that Islamic leaders are willing to allow gender equality. Such a ban is not necessary with responsible leadership for a historically conservative religion addressing these issues and progressing on their own.."

The statement from the Islamic Council, however, was criticized by representatives of the Iranian Muslim League, believing it to be "against the Word of God and a corrupt misinterprtation of the Qu'ran."

Hi :)

See here for information:

All application forms can be found below, and should be copy-pasted into a factbook and filled out. These must be placed in a factbook, and all Nation Applications must be preserved, unedited, following approval.

For new players, the nation application should be utilized. For those wishing to expand their claim, the expansion application should be used, and for those wishing to bring a puppet to the region to serve as a rebel group within their country, or something to the same effect, the rebel application should be utilized.

Following the completion of any application, a link to the factbook that contains the application should be sent either via telegram to Geopolity Customs for processing, AND/OR may be submitted to the #applications tab on our LinkRegional Discord Channel. Requests for rectifications may be made before you are accepted.

Please allow at least 24 hours for a response. Please note as well that if you apply via Discord that the process will be much quicker than if it is submitted by telegram. Should you ever take significant issue with the review of your application, you may send telegram/Discord DM with your complaints to Labyrnna or any of the RP Coordinators. Response times may vary. This should be reserved for complaints with regards to conduct of the review, not to what rectifications are required.

When your application has been accepted, a notice will be posted on the Regional Message Board. Until said notice is posted, new members are not permitted to post on the Regional Message Board or conduct RP. All posts will be suppressed, and all RP will be invalidated.

Notes:

  • Submission of an application is considered verification that an applicant has read the Geopolity regional rules, and the contents of this factbook, and understand them thoroughly.

  • Land claims should be kept reasonable in size, and ought to hew very closely to the real life conditions of the land being claimed.
Changes to population and GDP will be permitted only marginally, and not at all for wealthier, more populous states. Wikipedia is recommended for largely up to date information on GDP and Population statistics, and in the case of disagreement, will be considered the most valid reference. Should an administrative division be lacking economic statistics one may utilize the GDP per capita of the nation to which it belongs, and multiply that by the population of said administrative division to ascertain its GDP.

  • This region does not use NS Stats in any way, shape or form.

  • Land claims that are varied in scope (taking lots of different bits of modern day states) may be rejected without sufficient reasoning for such a claim fleshed out in the history. Significant displacements of ethno-cultural groups is largely not permitted.

  • With regards to nation names, it is all but required that you utilize your NationStates account name. The administration reserves the right to reject an application if that name should be silly, or otherwise unfit for a nations name.

  • You MUST be an accepted member of the NationStates World Assembly to apply to the region, and this membership must be maintained over the entirety of one’s stay as a RP member of the region. You will be given a single warning upon submission of an application, and there will be no follow-up until WA membership has been achieved. Should you lose WA membership following your acceptance, for any reason, you will be removed from regional Roleplay.

  • Land Claim expansions should not be considered within your first six months of regional membership, and will only seldom be granted. They will be minimal in size and scope, and should be utilized for purposes of story, not as a land-grab. Reliance on such expansions for RP is strongly discouraged, as they will be few and far between. When granted, use of puppets to represent the land being acquired will likely be permitted.

  • Rebel applications should be used sparingly, and may be rejected if the administration feels they are unnecessary to accomplish what is desired. Please note that these rebel groups are 100% internal, and cannot be utilized in other nations without said nations permission, nor can they be used for land claim expansions.

  • Should you be removed from RP for any reason you must submit a new application, following all guidelines presented here.

Geopolity is a Roleplay region steeped in a long history of modern day roleplaying. We refer you to the Regional Message Board (RMB) for examples of such roleplay. Should you have any questions, we encourage you to pose them on the LinkRegional Discord Channel, and while joining the Discord is not mandatory, it is heavily encouraged.

Sobiraniya announces major water policy decision

The Imperial Federation is not known for its soil fertility or for its long, winding rivers penetrating the vast interior. Although Infiny is undoubtedly a maritime nation given its massive coastline, the state of water management within Infiny itself is in an abysmal state. The rivers and lakes that do carry fresh water are deeply isolated, leaving many others dry. These wadis and seasonal bodies of water are all over the Imperial Federation, most notably near the capital, Mogaděshú, in the State of Galeen.

Here, the Shébčlle river, one of the two major rivers in the Somali region, flows parallel to the littoral, towards the other major Somali river, the Yuva. However, the volume displaced in the region is generally not high enough to reach the Yuva, causing it to become a seasonal river, and severely limiting the river's use for agricultural and especially commercial practice. However, plans have been put in motion to change the Shébčlle from a seasonal river into a regular one.

The Shébčlle Navigability Committee will consist of representatives of the states of Galeen, Vidiníyá, and Ogadčn, the Federal Government, numerous corporate entities specialized in water flow and preservation, and special interests (such as agriculture) join forces to transform the Shébčlle into the major commercial artery of Galeen by ensuring a steady water flow. Among other various wider measures, the committee has stated that it will seek to;

    - Preserve and repair Riparian Zones along the edges of the river. These measures will assure the preservation of the diverse flora and fauna found here, but, more importantly, for the river itself, stabilize water flow and maintain water quality. The vegetation in these zones will remove excess nutrients and sediment.

    - Reforestation, to improve water retention in the Somali soi, reduce surface runoff, and prevent erosion.

    - Sustainable Agriculture, notably in regards to irrigation practices, which must become more sustainable and efficient to prevent further damage to the river, and allow it to recover without damaging the important role Galeen plays as a bread basket for much of northeastern Infiny.

    - The construction and regulation of Dams and Reservoirs, notably regarding the existing dams in the states of Ogadčn and Vidiníyá. Further reservoirs may be created to store water during periods of high rainfall and regulate the levels of the river during challenging seasons.

In its strategic policy plan, the SNC announced that it has split its goals into short-term, medium, and long-term objectives. The long-term objectives, which should ensure a stable water flow in the Shébčlle, are currently set for five to ten years and are estimated to cost 300 to 500 million USD. Upon completion, a navigable and permanent Shébčlle will lead to major increases in production, and will massively boost the position of Galeen, Ogadén, and Vidiníyá as logistical hubs in East Africa.

HAJJ SUBSIDY TO BE PHASED OUT BY THE CENTRAL GOVERNMENT

The Office of Religious Affairs has announced an eventual phaseout of the controversial hajj subsidy, a nearly DA 10 million ($2 million) subsidy to poor Muslim families for performing the Hajj, the holy pilgrimage to Mecca. Initially implemented in the early 1990s as a show of support to the Muslim community of Iran, the hajj subsidy has been criticized by many as not significantly reducing costs and a waste of government taxpayer money.

According to the Office of Religious Affairs, "The holy book of Islam, the Qu'ran, states that the hajj must be performed using one's own resources. Since the Hajj subsidy directly violates the word of the Islamic Qu'ran, it is in the Central Government's best interest to phase out the Hajj subsidy and respect the Muslims of Iran." The removal of the subsidy, however, would mean that nearly 20% of Iranian Muslims would be unable to perform the Hajj, primarily poorer Sunnis.

President Found Drunk in Public Again

President Zygmunt, who has been noted as committing actions consistent with signs of cognitive decline, was found this morning in a bar without his security detail while in a drunken stupor. According to police statements, the president had brought along his pet rooster, Henrietta, which he had stolen a few weeks back. The president was thrown into a drunk tank at the city jail in downtown Słonecznemiasto and later released on the same day under the supervision of his security detail. When the news broke on local media outlets, the outrage from the general public was more than palpable. The president maybe in trouble for his reelection campaign as multiple financial backers have since backed out due to concerns regarding his mental fortitude. When asked about this, President Zygmunt said “When you see the other side chopping off political heads, waterboarding doesn't sound very severe. I’m sure the losers and morons would somehow find a way to feel oppressed by waterboarding.”

Man Arrested for Starting Bush Fire

An elderly man, Jan Brozski, was arrested last week for starting a bush fire by his negligence. He claimed that the fire got out of control after he threw a kilogram of C4 plastic explosives to hide evidence from a crime he committed earlier. The man was already wanted for robbing an arms depot and stealing roughly one hundred kilograms of plastic explosives. He said he used the explosives to kill feral pigs that were rooting up his crops, going on to state “I can’t get the sticky gasoline substance for a flamethrower anymore so I went with explosives.” The explosives started a fire that consumed roughly one hundred square kilometers of land before local fire crews were able to contain the fire. Mr. Brozski faces many years in prison and potentially steep fines for the theft of dangerous explosives and negligence leading to destruction of property.

Images Surface, Appear to Show Fmr. President Dannenberg with Known Mobster

Allegations have surfaced along with blurry photos which some online have claimed shows ousted President Dannenberg along with Alessandro Rossi, a known member of the 'Ndrangheta crime group, entering what appears to be an apartment complex in Mannheim.

No media outlet has been able to independently verify the accuracy of the allegations as of yet. When asked by various outlets for comment, the former president declined to say anything beyond, “Slow news day, huh?”

Since leaving office, the former president has gone largely under the radar. He made a few public appearances with opposition party leaders, which fueled brief speculation among pundits that he may be plotting his political revenge against current president, and his now ex-wife, Mags Janssens, by aligning himself with an opposition party. With that rumor having mostly dissipated, new interest in the former president has been sparked due to these photos.

One late night host, Anton Schneider, jumped on the allegations in an opening segment of his broadcast where he said; “Former President Fredrick Dannenberg is again in the news… apparently after a failed attempt at being a crook in the political arena he’s now trying his luck at being an actual crook with the mafia. Frankly when you think about it, I’m a little surprised the politician to mob boss pipeline isn’t more common. I feel like being a politician is a fantastic resume builder to then go seek employment in the organized crime sector…”

Doctors' Strike Continues

The strike of medical personnel around Saejoseon continues into its third month despite pressure from the Saejoseonse government. While no drastic measures have been taken as of yet, Chief State Councilor Sagong Hyun-Jae states that if the strikes continue, the Grand Assembly may move forward with legislation that may lead to medical license suspensions. The Saejoseonese Medical Association has called the possible legislation unnecessary and harmful to those who are striking against medical school enrollment quota increases.

While the government has not replied to any comments from the SMA, various councilors have been quoted saying that the strikes occurring across Saejoseon will cause more harm than good the longer they continue. Striking doctors and the SMA have called these claims by the councilors baseless and have noted that they will continue to strike until the original legislation being protested is reversed or done away with.

The Saejoseon Imperial News Agency will have more on this story as it develops.

INFINIAN MUSLIMS SHOW FRUSTRATION ABOUT IRANIAN POLICY

The Islamic communities in Zanzibar and Infiny have expressed concern regarding the news of Iran phasing out its subsidies for the poorest Muslims to make the pilgrimage to Mecca. Prime Minister Ljuba Ryrua (PLI - ZA) of Zanzibar has written an urgent letter to the Iranian ambassador to Infiny, Ms. Atousa Orangi, urging the Iranian government to reconsider, or to at least offer a viable alternative. "I do not wish to intrude on the internal affairs of our close Iranian friends," she writes, "but the exercise of religious identity is a concept very dear to me, and many Muslims throughout Infiny and Zanzibar. The Hajj is a vital component of the Islamic belief system. While it is true that some scholars have criticized the concept of Hajj subsidies as un-Islamic, the problem remains that without it, a key part of their faith is unexercisable for the people. Most respectfully, we would urge the Iranian government to either retain the subsidies or to replace them with a viable alternative to make travel to Mecca accessible to the very poorest of the Muslim community in Iran."

Prime Minister Cyseia has expressed her sympathy for Ryrua's ploy, stating "The Imperial Federation strongly supports the right to free exercise of religion," however, she also commented that "while constructive criticism and dialogue remain the backbone of international diplomacy and correspondence, this matter is ultimately an Iranian one, which we as the Imperial Federation are obliged to respect and uphold.

Statement from Muslim Charities of the United Kingdom

Muslim Charities of the United Kingdom expresses deep concern over the decision of the Iranian government to phase out the hajj subsidy, which will disproportionately impact poorer Muslims, including Sunnis, who rely on this assistance to fulfill their religious obligation of performing the hajj.

We believe that access to the hajj should be equitable and that financial constraints should not prevent any Muslim from undertaking this sacred pilgrimage. Therefore, we are disappointed by the potential exclusion of a significant portion of the Iranian Muslim community from performing the hajj due to the withdrawal of the subsidy.

In response to this situation, Muslim Charities of the United Kingdom is committed to supporting those in need by raising funds to sponsor poor Iranians, irrespective of their sectarian affiliation, to help them cover the costs associated with the hajj. We firmly believe that every Muslim should have the opportunity to fulfill this fundamental pillar of Islam, and we are dedicated to ensuring that financial obstacles do not hinder their ability to do so.

We urge the Iranian government to reconsider its decision and to prioritize the religious freedoms and aspirations of its citizens, ensuring that all Muslims, regardless of their financial status, have the opportunity to participate in the hajj pilgrimage.

Muslim Charities of the United Kingdom remains steadfast in its commitment to supporting vulnerable communities and facilitating access to religious obligations. We call upon individuals and organizations to join us in this important mission. Together, we can make a positive impact on the lives of those in need and uphold the values of justice and compassion within our global Muslim community.

Verpėja Missile Systems Seek International Assitance on Ahti AShM

Verpėja Missile Systems (VMS) announced in a press conference on April 2nd that it was seeking international assistance on their Ahti anti-ship missile program(Ahti AShM). The Baltic Ahti AShM was originally announced in early 2021 and the Kruuda administration has continued its development in his administration. VMS declared at the press conference:

“Simply put, we are approaching initial operational capability with Ahti. However, we have continued to run over budget and it simply is not sustainable for the Baltic Confederation to walk this path alone. Thus, we are looking for potential partners to assist in the development of our anti-ship missile program. VMS looks forward to taking the next step in the ever-growing Baltic arms industry and we remain world innovators of missile technologies.”

VMS was originally contracted by the Baltic Confederation’s Navy to meet the ever-growing gap in BC’s naval capabilities on the Baltic Sea. The Ahti AShm is part of a multi-step program by Riga to expand defense on the seas without investments in a large fleet. The missile itself may have a range of 290km once at operational capacity and will be able to be deployed from a large variety of technologies on land. The intended versatility of the missile system is meant to be launched from the deep forests and swamps of the Confederation, making it difficult to target by hostile air assets. Ahti targeting systems are projected to be effective in all weather conditions, day or night, and be able to strike naval and land targets alike. Matched with the naval mining and anti-aircraft capabilities of the Baltic Confederation, the country will not go down without a fight, much like our forefathers.

The Ahti missile is named after the Funno-Urgric god of the sea and fishing. Found in the harsh seas around the Balts and Finland, Ahti controls the waves and anything sailing on them. Verpėja Missile Systems itself is named after the goddess that weaves the thread of life and controls life and death. Surely it is no coincidence VMS chose such a historical name for the pride of BC missile manufacturing.

Five Sheep Stolen from Ignalinan Farmer in Bizarre Incident

The small city of Ignalina was shocked on the first of April, when a local farmer discovered five of his sheep were stolen, with only a small note left on the pens entrance. Local police reported of the incident in the evening of April 1 and it is believed the sheep stealers arrived early that morning. The unnamed farmer woke up and went down to tend to his small pen of sheep when he noticed five of the sheep were missing from the pen. Initially believing they had escaped in the night, the farmer left to search for the small flock when his wife noticed the note on the pen entrance. The note read:

“FYI, your farm took so long to build, now, with a snap of our fingers, down goes part of the flock!”

It remains unknown what the cryptic thieves motives are, but local police have increased patrols in the area where the flock went missing. However, locals remain cautious, as the note begins with “FYI” which local authorities have attributed in previous years to being a moniker for the Anarchist group Free Youth of Ignalina. Police remain silent, but if it does turn out to be connected with the group, it will be concerning. Beyond petty crime and graffiti, FYI is mostly known for its harassment of the now-closed Ignalina Nuclear Power Plant and its former employees. The connection between sheep sabotage and nuclear power remains a conspiratorial stretch but officials will be monitoring the situation. Nonetheless, the location of the five sheep is unknown and locals will be counting sheep in the coming days.

Here at EDN, we try and provide our readers with honest coverage of our country's place in the world and stories of the people from it.

Uz veselību from Riga.

Bite Size History: The impact of Unitism
A series of bite-sized history chunks for secondary school children

In the last Bite Size we looked at the start and escalation of the civil war. In this, we will look at the emergence of 'Unitism'.

Reliant on food aid, much of the population were in constant contact with the Blue Cross of the Anglican Church, as were partisans, ZANU and SWAPO.

The concept of 'Unitism' emerged from a series of letters sent between 67-68 between Mangosuthu Buthelezi, the Prince of the Zulu, Nelson Mandela of the African National Congress, Christopher Bellingham, the Archbishop of Cape Town, and the head of Political Philosophy at Pretoria University, Alan van de Rijk.

In these letters, now on display in the national museum of Pretoria and others, the four men, who were introduced by van de Rijk considered the calamity of the war and considered ways out of it. Their unifying characteristic was their Anglicism, paternalism, anti-racism and a general opposition to communism. In these letters they set out a series of principles:

- That the peoples of S Africa must work together.
"Leave the past. S Africa has been the destination of migration and colonisation, the Europeans only followed the Zulu and the Bantu. All of our destinies are tied up with those of other people - history has led us all here." - Buthelezi (letter b5)

- That the state and society should work together to improve the lives of all.
"Overcoming poverty is not a task of charity, it is an act of justice" - Mandela (letter m5)

- That the church should be an important part of the state.
"We are all equal under god. We are all gods' children. Division by race, colour or creed has nothing to offer us - Bellingham (letter b1)

- That the new state must be pragmatic, and accept things that work. Rijk gives the example the privatisation and commercialisation of farms, which may well be owned by whites, but that are needed to feed the nation.
"Keep what works and rejects what doesn't. In seeking a brighter future it will be necessary to maintain much the status quo" - Rijk (letter r8)

The Gaborone Meetings
A secret meeting between the four men, and the wings of various factions that desired peace was held in Gaborone at the rectory of the Anglican Church of the Holy Cross. The Botswanan leader of the time becoming a proponent.

Mandela argued strongly on the side of economic justice, with Buthelezi unity and conservatism, Rijk, pragmatism, and Bellingham spirituality. All stood against racism. As others were brought into the conversation another element emerged; the importance of a strong state which would to some extent need to enforce the new order. Mandela argued strongly against this, but elements within his own ANC movement persuaded him to accept the principle however reluctantly.

A series of 3 meetings brought the Church, the Liberal party, the Zulu faction, moderate members of the government of Rhodesia and Namibia and the African National Congress in line with the idea. But ZANU and SWAPO refused to back down. A forth congress held in Gaborone agreed the Unitist Pamphlet and a plan for peace which proposed a transitional government with a 'states council' to oversee the early years of a new federation.

In the next bite-size we will look at the end of the civil war, and the formation of the modern UZA.

MINISTRY OF STATE SECURITY - INTERNAL REPORT

Central-Asia wrote:To: Representatives of the United Assembly of Nations
From: Chairman Vincent Chakma of the VNC

Subject: Conclusion Report of the Voras-Nidže Commission Investigation into the Central Asian Union and Blue Wolves Agency
21st of March 2024

To all Representatives within the UAN,

I am writing to provide you with the detailed conclusion report of the Voras-Nidže Commission's comprehensive investigation into the involvement of the Central Asian Union and Blue Wolves Organisation in the recent terrorist attack on the border of the Ottoman Empire and South Slavia.

The investigation, conducted with meticulous attention to detail, aimed to uncover the truth behind the tragic events and identify those responsible for perpetrating this heinous act. After extensive examination of all available evidence, including witness testimonies, forensic analysis, and intelligence reports, the commission has reached several key findings.

First and foremost, I am pleased to inform you that all high-ranking officials of the Blue Wolves Organisation and the Central Asian government who were under investigation have been cleared of any involvement in the attack. The commission's thorough review of their actions and communications revealed no evidence of complicity or wrongdoing on their part.

Furthermore, the commission has determined that the Blue Wolves Organisation as a whole cannot be held accountable for the terrorist attack. While certain individuals within the organisation were implicated in the planning and execution of the operation, their actions were undertaken without proper authorization or oversight.

The primary responsibility for the attack lies with Commander Tynychbek Abdraimov and 11 of his subordinates, who initiated the operation without proper authorization from higher authorities. 11 of which are now in the custody of the commission as a result of aid from the Central Asian government in their capture, however Commander Abdraimov still remains at large. We are doing all we can to ensure his safe bringing into custody.

In addition to identifying the perpetrators, the commission has compiled a comprehensive dossier of evidence, including intercepted communications, surveillance footage, and forensic analysis of certain scenes related to the incident. This evidence has been handed over to the appropriate authorities for further review and prosecution.

As we move forward, it is imperative that we remain vigilant in our efforts to combat terrorism and uphold the rule of law. The Central Asian government and the Blue Wolves Organisation are committed to working closely with international partners to prevent future attacks and ensure the safety and security of all citizens.

Please do not hesitate to reach out if you require any further information or assistance regarding the investigation. We remain dedicated to transparency and accountability in all matters related to national security and counterterrorism efforts.

Sincerely,

Vincent Chakma
Chairperson of the Voras-Nidže Commission and CTTC Operative of Fake Bangla

Subject: Status of the Blue Wolves Company

The Blue Wolves Company, a private military company based in the Central Asian Union, was believed to be involved in the incident incursion into South Slavia. Following the said incursion and preliminary reports of Blue Wolves contractors being used in this incursion, the Ministry of State Security has put the Blue Wolves Company on a blacklist regarding such attacks. However, with the recent international report on the Blue Wolves Company indicating that the company was not directly behind the attacks, a reconsider of the blacklist has been proposed.

Such a delisting has its positives and drawbacks. For one, a removal of the Blue Wolves Organization would significantly enhance Iranian ties to the Central Asian Union, potentially expanding a greater role of Iran in the region against the threat of greater Central Asian-Ottoman alliances. However, such a removal coould pose a national security risk, especially within Khorasan, the closest shahr to the Central Asian Union.

The Ministry has determined that the removal of the Blue Wolves Organization from the blacklist has greater benefits than drawbacks, and should be given an official removal of the Blue Wolves Organization from Iran's blacklist. Such a move will help aid Iranian interests in the turbulence of Central Asia and the Middle East, and serve to expand Iran's role in a hostile and aggressive region where security is paramount.

An Open Invitation to the Nations of North America

A unified single market and free trade zone encompassing North America, already among the largest economic zones in the world, would invigorate the economies of the continent even further, advancing our states into an unprecedented age of prosperity which would be of the greatest benefit to every man, woman and child in our states. The diplomatic cooperation that will be required to realize this dream would be a testament to the exceptional relations that our nations share with each other.

In the spirit of advancing the commonly shared interests of economic, social, diplomatic and political prosperity, the Government of Zeleniya cordially invites representatives of the United States of America, the Imperial Mexican States and Krenstova to the Port City of Alexandropol to discuss the formation of the North American Free Trade Concordat (NAFTCON).

=-= POLITICAL REFORMS ENFORCED WITHIN ADWILAUR! =-=
Date: 04/04/2024.

What's happening?

After an extensive period of deliberation, massive constitutional reforms, and a resounding national referendum, the envisioned political transformations for the Socialist Republic of Adwilaur have been embraced and officially implemented. In a monumental stride towards further democratic reforms, the nation has enthusiastically transitioned into a new model of governance, now proudly recognizing itself as a Presidential Republic and Federal State, marked by a new framework of checks and balances, as well as a further separation of powers.

The Government of Adwilaur has released this new Factbook, detailing how the political system now works, in simple terms:

Introduction.

The Socialist Republic of Adwilaur is a Presidential Republic and Federal state comprised of three Semi-Independent Provinces, functioning under the oversight of the Federal Government. Its highest legislative body is the Adwilaurian People's Assembly (APA), comprising one-thousand seats. The executive branch is represented by three elected Presidents who collectively serve as the Head of State and Government.

How do the elections work?

In the Socialist Republic of Adwilaur, there are three distinct elections held at the Federal level: the APA elections, Presidential elections, and Judicial elections. To participate in any of these elections, individuals must be at least sixteen years old and Adwilaurian citizens. The electoral system employed across these elections is Ranked-Choice Voting, also known as the Alternative Vote.

Firstly, the APA elections determine the composition of the highest legislative body in Adwilaur. The nation is divided into one-thousand Electoral Wards (EWs), each electing a single Representative to serve in the APA for three-year terms. Candidates must meet the age and citizenship criteria, as well as gather at least two-hundred and fifty signatures from within their respective EW. There are no financial requirements for candidacy. APA Representatives can be recalled by their electors through a popular petition within the relevant EW, followed by a vote.

Secondly, Presidential elections are conducted nationwide to select the three Presidents of Adwilaur, each serving for three-year terms. Candidates must fulfill the age and citizenship requirements and gather 129,000 signatures nationwide, equivalent to roughly five percent of the total population. Financial requirements are not imposed. Among the three Presidents, one is designated as the Prime President, tasked with representing Adwilaur on the international stage. The Prime President is the candidate with the highest overall vote count.

Lastly, Judicial elections determine the composition of the High Court of Adwilaur, comprised of twelve High Judges, each elected by the people for three-year terms. Prospective High Judges must be at least twenty-two years old, Adwilaurian citizens, and secure at least 129,000 signatures nationwide. Additionally, they must also hold a university-level qualification in law or a related field. High Judges serve for three-year terms.

The Council of Ministers.

The executive branch of the Socialist Republic of Adwilaur is formed by the Presidents and the Council of Ministers, referred to as the CM. Ministers are appointed directly by the Presidents, each tasked with overseeing one of the nation's twenty-seven distinct Ministries. The Presidents hold the authority to establish new Ministries or dissolve existing ones as deemed necessary. Ministers typically serve three-year terms, but are subject to removal or appointment by the Presidents at any time.

Term Limits.

Term limits are enforced within Adwilaur, as outlined in the nation's constitution. Representatives to the APA may serve up to five terms, totaling fifteen years. Presidents are restricted to three terms, equating to nine years in office. And High Judges are authorized to serve seven terms, equating to twenty-one years. These limits are rigidly upheld, preventing individuals from exceeding their designated terms.

The Provinces.

As previously mentioned, Adwilaur operates as a Federal state, comprised of three Semi-Independent Provinces: Adarma, Hungen, and Chekor. Each Province maintains its own elected Government, consisting of a Provincial People's Assembly (PPA), three Provincial Presidents, and a Provincial Council of Ministers (PCM), mirroring the structure of the Federal Government. The Provincial People's Assemblies, however, are much smaller in size when compared to the APA. The Provincial Presidents collaborate closely with their Federal counterparts to promote cooperation and cohesion between the Provinces and the nation at large.

Numerous responsibilities and functions are delegated to the Provincial level, though the Federal Government retains overarching authority. Provinces primarily handle matters such as Education, Healthcare, and Infrastructure. The Federal Government, on the other hand, is primarily responsible for enacting National Laws, managing Monetary Policy, overseeing Defense, and conducting International Relations.

Local Councils.

Cities, towns, and villages within Adwilaur are governed and managed by Local Councils, which report directly to the Federal and Provincial Governments and receive funding from them, supplemented by modest council taxes.

Unlike other political entities in Adwilaur, however, Local Councils are not elected. Rather, they are chosen through sortition, a random selection process of individuals within each locality. For example, any resident of a city, aged at least sixteen, could be randomly selected to serve on their city's local council, with the same principle applying to villages and towns. This process resembles how a jury is selected.

Those selected have the option to accept or decline the position, though acceptance is customary. Typically, individuals serve for a month on their local council before being replaced. The number of seats on a local council is directly proportional to the population of the area it represents.

Infiny wrote:INFINIAN MUSLIMS SHOW FRUSTRATION ABOUT IRANIAN POLICY

The United British Kingdom wrote:Statement from Muslim Charities of the United Kingdom

OPEN LETTER FROM THE IMAM OF THE AZAM MOSQUE, SALMAN ADIB

OOC: 2 prewords for me to say. The letter was sent directly in 2 copies to the Office of the Prime Minister of Zanzibar as well as the headquarters of the Muslim Charities of the United Kingdom.

To the Prime Minister of Zanzibar and the Muslim Charities of the United Kingdom,

Your letters and requests were received by me from the Office of Religious Affairs, dedicated to helping people of all religions from the Iranian Government and foster religious cohesion. I am Salman Adib, Imam of the Azam Mosque, a proud Shia mosque built by the good Muslims of Kom, and generously aided and supported by the kind Zoroastrians, Christians, Jews, and citizens of Kom. In a city formerly pervaded by violence, the good actions of the Government helped establish religious order among those righteous to accept such peace.

I am writing to you regarding the negative backlash of the Government's phaseout of the Hajj subsidy. I wholeheartedly support the phaseout of such a subsidy, as the Hajj subsidy itself is against Islamic teachings. The Hajj must be performed by Muslims using their own resources according to Islamic law (fiqh) - a government subsidy is directly against this. The elimination of the hajj subsidy shows that the Iranian Government, contrary to beliefs thrown about by other belligerent nations, cares about its Muslim people through its recognition of Islamic law and rectification of mistakes to abide by Islamic law.

While I understand that many poorer Muslims will be unable to fulfill their religious obligation without the subsidy, it is the obligation of the ummah to uplift those less fortunate to perform their religious duties, not the government. Let the believers of Allah help themselves, not be pandered by the government for their own needs.

With sincere wishes of good fortune to those that read this letter,

Salman Adib
