The Duke and his war cabinet sat in the senate chambers when the message arrived. The Duke shook his head and appeared frustrated as he went to go and relieve himself through a glass of cold water. He was an alcoholic and could not begin to feel satiated without a glass of the grandest aqua de via. He turned to the minister filling in for Toussainte, who was leading the pacification of Campione—and began to speak.

"What do you suggest?" He said.
"Me, sir?"
"Yes, you. I didn't hire you to think aloud and thus I wish you to give me your honest opinion." The duke replied.

The secretary, Benoît, looked around in shock for a moment and retreated into his mind for a cohesive opinion.

"The Vapian Republic does not appreciate that we are defending her city for her. In that case, I say we let the knights land, help pacify the city, and then begin the integration process later on."

The Duke shook his head, "No, that wouldn't do. We cannot allow any Vapian ships to pass into Campione. They are a force to be reckoned with. They already know how volatile our situation is and may take advantage of it by fully ruling over Campione before us."

"I have an idea, Master Duke." Another official pleaded.
"Go ahead, Secretary."
"We should inform the separatists in Lycceine that we are willing to join them in a two-front campaign against the Vapian naval forces. Once they arrive, we back out and watch as the Lycceinais are obliterated, all the while communicating with the Prime Minister's office explaining the situation in Lycceine."

The Duke shook his head in agreement, "Exhaust the Vapians, and take out our enemies from Lycceine. I like this."

The message of the ploy took three days to reach the brigades in Campione, who had already started to address the riots. The military hospital had been overtaken by Lyccenese patriots already, and it was a slow operation to try and quell the fighting from the outside in. The vigilant citizens of Campione were cautiously defending themselves from the Island of Campione and the Jewry, or Bohemian quarter where the fighting had not reached. Once the envoy has arrived to Toussainte's campsite, she was devastated.

"We are going to abandon the city?" She asked.
"That is the Duke's orders." The envoy spoke.
"Why? The Vapians—reliably, won't arrive until dusk. The entire city will be in the hands of the separatists by that point."
"The Duke told me the meaning of this tactic is confidential, and wishes you to have faith in him."

Toussainte took the message from the messenger-girl's hand and read it with her own eyes, before commanding that the envoy take some water and leave Campione and return to Karé.

"That Duke... What is he up to?" Toussainte muttered.

She looked out upon the merchant-city as it continued to be bombarded by street-duels and canon-fire. She did not want to let the brigades know that it was time to go home.

The Invasion of Rebel Territory: Isle Campione

It took a long time to get the Knights over to the continent of Fusea, but finally, the ships made it. Throughout the trip, scout aircraft and reports indicate the rebels had advanced, and it looked as if the Fusean Republican Army had retreated from the city. Weak, just as the Ambassador had predicted.
The ships pulled into the deserted dock, only to be met with a volley of fire from the rebels ancient canons. The projectiles bounced harmlessly off the sides of the reinforced hulls of the modern ships, and it did not take long before the forces onboard to grab their guns and return fire.
It did not take long for the docks to be fully captured. Being guarded by a mere 20 enemy troops, most were dispatched or detained. They did not proceed to advance, and instead unloaded their cargo. Two fully operational C2 Ariete MBTs were offloaded and were made ready. Soon, they would begin their advance.
By this point, the early morning sun had finished rising up from her slumber on the horizon. Once it had risen higher, the advance began. Slowly sweeping into the city, the tanks acted as a giant mobile shield for the soldiers following behind. Their objective was the Vapian embassy, where the enemy had gotten to the doorstep before guards started a defense operation. The embassy was under siege with the only thing stopping the enemies from taking it was a few guards with rifles. They were low on ammo and were running out of supplies.
The city was not a very modern one, but it still looked like a city. They had no idea what the enemy tactics would be, and since the city was dense, guerilla tactics could be employed. So the soldiers shielded behind the tanks employed an overlapping field of fire position.
Before long, they advanced on the Magister's Estate and the Embassy. The enemy had not gotten notice of how fast the advancement of the Vapians were, and they managed to slay most of the sieging enemies.
