The United Socialist States of Asinnea is a huge, orderly nation, remarkable for its compulsory military service, keen interest in outer space, and frequent executions. The compassionate, cynical population of 554 million Asinneans are ruled with an iron fist by the dictatorship government, which ensures that no-one outside the party gets too rich. In their personal lives, however, citizens are relatively unoppressed; it remains to be seen whether this is because the government genuinely cares about its people, or if it hasn't gotten around to stamping out civil rights yet.

The enormous, well-organized government juggles the competing demands of Administration, Education, and Defense. The average income tax rate is 68.6%, and even higher for the wealthy.

The sizeable but inefficient Asinnean economy, worth 24.0 trillion yuan a year, is fairly diversified and led by the Book Publishing industry, with major contributions from Beef-Based Agriculture, Information Technology, and Door-to-door Insurance Sales. State-owned companies are common. Average income is 43,377 yuan, and distributed extremely evenly, with little difference between the richest and poorest citizens.

For just a few extra yuan Asinneans can get new driving records with their new cars, the legislature keeps promising "more study" of corruption allegations against the parliamentary whip system, the team in charge of creating a new writing system have spent months deciding whether or not to use serif or sans-serif characters, and arbitrary election rules are considered sacrosanct. Crime, especially youth-related, is totally unknown, thanks to a well-funded police force and progressive social policies in education and welfare. Asinnea's national animal is the Yangtze alligator.

Asinnea is ranked 168,244th in the world and 18th in The Universal Order of Nations for Largest Automobile Manufacturing Sector, scoring 304.05 on the Henry Ford Productivity Index.
