Yesterday the delegates overwhelmingly voted to remove the 40-year ban gay clergy! They also can no longer penalize churches or clergy for holding same sex weddings. We live in very exciting times.

I was really excited to hear this news. Congrats to everyone in the UMC - I know it’s been a long process and so humbled to see the spirit leading its members to supporting, loving and affirming all people created in God’s image.

Christian Legion of America wrote:If a man practices homosexuality, having sex with another man as with a woman, both men have committed a detestable act. They must both be put to death, for they are guilty of a capital offense.” - Leviticus 20:13

If you lend money to any of my people with you who is poor, you shall not be like a moneylender to him, and you shall not exact interest from him. - Exodus 22:25

You shall keep my statutes. You shall not let your animals breed with a different kind; you shall not sow your field with two kinds of seed; nor shall you put on a garment made of two different materials. - Leviticus 19:19

There are many things in the Old Testament which are not followed today for good reason. The theological conversation on affirming LGBT+ people is more nuanced and detailed than 1 verse in Leviticus 👍🏼

What if people argued that the laws from the OT that are not followed today are mainly Jewish customs and traditions and are not moral laws, while laws from the OT that are still followed today are moral laws and should still be followed? (I personally endorse this view)

People may argue that but I see not textual basis for that, nor do I see that as a practice long help by the Christian church, particularly as it is a church of primarily gentiles - Paul had a lot to say about this as well as Jesus in his statement on the fulfillment of the law.

If you constantly have to previse what you're writing with that you're "not homophobic" and "don't hate gay people", you probably should reflect a little.

I regret looking everyday:) I have personally decided to watch this debate and not join it.

It's always the same arguments so I just try and ignore it for the most part. I've spoken about my sexuality often before on our Board if anyone is interested.

Sad honestly that you get such a sh*tty response from some. I think it's cool what the United Methodist Church is doing.

Thank you. It's hurtful what they say, but I remember that at the end of the day I am just communicating with them over the internet on an anonymous message board without faces. Their words might hurt be, but I don't want to cause them any hurt. Life can suck sometimes and I know they have to be dealing with the daily struggles of life. Maybe work is stressful, maybe they aren't even old enough to work yet and they have to deal with the struggles of school.

I left my old church a few years ago because they left the Episcopal Church and joined a group that was specifically founded because of the issue of homosexuality. I'm happy that in the UMC I have found a new home. I do miss the High Church culture, I miss having communion every Sunday, I do miss drinking real wine not grape juice. But I'm glad to be accepted and I think that's more important.

Really showing that you aren't homophobic and don't hate gay people there my guy. 🙄🥴

Honestly the way some Christians talk about and to gay people is not something I could imagine Jesus would stand for.

I'd recommend reading the original texts instead of letting yourself be manipulated by fajute translations clearly favouring a point of view
advice from an eastern Orthodox

oh by the way, any sin except blasphemy can be forgiven as long as there is repent. Don't just condemn people to hell, don't you guys complain that trans people defy God? Then why do you guys love sentencing people to hell in His place?

Oi people from the region Gay- bugger off and leave UCN members alone.
Cheeky beggars. We really need some form of legislation to stop people from other regions engaging in UCN affairs as it is a continuous problem.
I don't care about who is right or wrong but they always stir up trouble and make the region tense.

They are just defending me and I appreciate it. We have an embassy with them and it is important to have regions communicate with each other.

So which cheeses do you fancy?

I wouldn't care if I got banned, but that means I would terminate the embassy immediately

No worries we members of the community have to stick up for each other. 💪❤️‍🔥

I do find it weird how we get blamed for "stirring trouble" and not the individuals being homophobic.

Cheddar.

Gideon wrote:No one said you are being homophobic. What was said is that your comment isn't constructive.

First, the only thing we knew Jesus threw a table for is because people were ripping off those trying to come to God. Let's not add our opinions to the Bible, because you don't know that.

We all live in sin and people find homosexuality as an easy target since it doesn't effect them. People and culture celebrate overuse of alcohol, drug use, gambling, pornography, adultery, gluttony, greed, etc. and people turn a blind eye. Never once on here have I heard anyone care about an issue like those, that is seemingly much more impactful than being gay. Stop seeing that speck in your brother's eye.

Thank you!
Something I've noticed about a lot of 'good-doers' are that, while they condemn homosexuals at church, are at a brothel or a similar building cheating on their wives or husbands
