The People's Republic of Bembelia is a colossal, socially progressive nation, notable for its parental licensing program, sprawling nuclear power plants, and devotion to social welfare. The compassionate, hard-working, cheerful population of 7.956 billion Bembelians are either ruled by a sleek, efficient government or a conglomerate of multinational corporations; it's difficult to tell which.

The relatively small, corrupt, pro-business government is primarily concerned with Industry, with Education, Welfare, and Administration also on the agenda. Citizens pay a flat income tax of 76.8%.

The frighteningly efficient Bembelian economy, worth a remarkable 2,753 trillion Pysies a year, is broadly diversified and led by the Retail industry, with significant contributions from Information Technology, Gambling, and Soda Sales. Black market activity is rampant. Average income is an amazing 346,049 Pysies, but there is a vast disparity between incomes, with the richest 10% of citizens earning 3,100,812 per year while the poor average 4,969, a ratio of 623 to 1.

Park rangers struggle to deal with a rash of stolen pic-a-nic baskets, the World People's Republic Games have been won again by Bembelia as no other country cares enough to compete, extraordinary tribunals try accused financial criminals, and groups of government workers are declared protected tribes if they venture too deep into the Capitol. Crime is totally unknown. Bembelia's national animal is the Tonton, which is also the nation's favorite main course.

Bembelia is ranked 11,554th in the world and 109th in Poetry for Highest Disposable Incomes, with 80,283.54 Standard Monetary Units.
