The Borderlands of Zoronoa is a titanic, orderly nation, ruled by Shimotsuki Tashigi with an iron fist, and notable for its smutty television, remarkably easy parental licensing program, and complete absence of social welfare. The hard-nosed, hard-working, cynical population of 11.744 billion Zoronoans are ruled by a mostly-benevolent dictator, who grants the populace the freedom to live their own lives but watches carefully for anyone to slip up.

The relatively small, corrupt government prioritizes Defense, with Industry, Environment, and Public Transport also on the agenda, while International Aid and Welfare receive no funds. It meets to discuss matters of state in the capital city of Santōryu. The average income tax rate is 8.8%, but much higher for the wealthy.

The all-consuming Zoronoan economy, worth a remarkable 1,221 trillion katanas a year, is fairly diversified and led by the Gambling industry, with significant contributions from Tourism, Arms Manufacturing, and Soda Sales. Black market activity is extensive. Average income is an impressive 104,050 katanas, and evenly distributed, with the richest citizens earning only 2.4 times as much as the poorest.

Only those who apply can study applied maths, Big Beef has a steak in national politics, an increasing number of animal species are named 'Bob', and asthmatics can now suffer the effects of polluting chimneys from further away than ever before. Crime, especially youth-related, is all-pervasive, perhaps because of the country's complete lack of prisons. Zoronoa's national animal is the zoroark, which frolics freely in the nation's many lush forests, and its national religion is either swordsmanship or kendo.

Zoronoa is ranked 273,994th in the world and 11th in The Straw Hat Pirates for Most Developed, scoring 50.36 on the Human Development Index.
