The Senate President, Peters Frankfurt, walks into the chamber with his gavel. He proceeds to bang his gavel

“This daily session shall be opened for a period of 24 hours. Today the President petitioned us to hold an emergency debate regarding joining OSEAN. I will formally open the discussions to debate. Senators, you may chime in at any time for personal opinions. As per the rules, a mandatory debate period of 2 hours shall proceed. The Honorable Senator from Spoonifo, you became begin.”

Thomas Marais Jr., the son and brother of former and incumbent MoFAs Thomas Sr. and Steven Marais, gets up from his seat. He served as the Chair on Guardian Chuck Charleston and President Frank Woolf’s Foreign Safety and Security Commission and is a former Head Ambassador for the nation. He was elected in the recent special election under the Prooklyn Alternative party against incumbent Senator Josef Nunpatric of the Workers Party.

Thomas has been known for being an interventionist. He believes war isn’t always the answer but he believes Dinoium could intervene in global affairs way more often than it has it the past 20 years.

“Thank you Mr. President. I come here today in support of the ratification of the OSEAN treaty within Dinoiumian borders. Joining OSEAN would be a very effective and beneficial thing to do. It’s been nearly a war since the fall of the Lotion Union of Nations. Our trade with other nations have fell below levels we haven’t seen in years, perhaps a decade. OSEAN is a very pro-trade like pact and could bring in new customs into our nation. I would love to expand trade with the Hong kong empire to enrich us with tea and vases.

“Dinoium needs to take the initiative and join OSEAN. Otherwise we’ll be stuck in a nation that acts like a young child whom is hiding in their closet with much potential. I yield the balance of my time.”

“The motion to yield balance of speaking time is acknowledged.”

Shadow Senate President and Workers Party Secretary General Charles Maximum grumbles to this.

“Mr. President, may I have a chance to rebuttal the Honorable Senator’s statement?”

“Your motion to rebuttal the Honorable Senator’s argument is acknowledged and recognized. You may proceed.”

“Correct.”

“Great. Now, back to my point. When the Honorable Senator was the Commission’s Chairman, that was a major cable leak of a diplomatic discussion between the President and the Ambassador to the Hong Kong Empire where they criticized OSEAN heavily. The job of the Commission is to prevent such leaks and the Chairman must inform the Commission. And actually, his brother, the Honorable Minister of Foreign Affairs, informed him to solve the crisis.

Instead of actually informing the Commission, he spent 5 days drafting his own solution to the leak and ended fainting in his apartment due to the lack of sleep and stress. Luckily, he survived. But he continued to postpone the informal until the President exercised his powers to inform the Commission and made the Honorable Minister of Foreign Affairs acting Chairman. Even though once he returned to the Commission and his drafted solution was implemented and was praised, he neglected his job to inform the Commission and hurt our chances at previously joined OSEAN.

Why is the President changing his mind now? Obviously he knows that being butthurt for so long about LUN’s dissolution has taken a toll and his party and coalition has almost always backed joining OSEAN after the fall of NPDA. The President is a hypocrite, a liar, and flip flop politician. The workers of Dinoium has been misrepresented for far too long. We wished to join the Warsaw Pact and now our dreams our gone.

I dissent the following treaty ratification and if invoke cloture is motioned, me and the opposition will walk out and you will not have the quorum to pass the treaty.”

The whole chamber is left into silence as Maximum’s voice begins to echo all over. Even the Senate President is quiet trying to take all of this in.

“You- Your dissent to the following treaty is acknowledged and recognized. A show of hands will be made to see how many people dissent the following treaty ratification.”

He bangs his gavel so hard that a small crack is made within the gavel. The room is quiet. The whole opposition attending the daily session raises their hand.

“The treaty ratification has been dissented and will be featured tomorrow with the new joint healthcare plan proposed by the Honorable Opposition Leader.”

. . . . . .

The Senate Majority Leader is working night shift at his office trying to figure out how they can get the treaty ratified. They obviously need a 2/3rd majority and are a few members short.

His phone begins to ring. It’s Senator Marais. He brings up the phone with a big sigh.

“I’m assuming you’re calling me regarding the treaty?”

“Well y-“

He is interrupted by the Senate Majority Leader.

“If that is the case, then I am sorry. I currently don’t have a plan. They won’t attend the vote so we won’t get the quorum needed.”

“Well I am calling you to prove you wrong. So as the Senate President mentioned, the healthcare plan will be debated and possibly voted on tomorrow along with the treaty. My plan is to have the Majority Whip and possibly you to call 1/3rd of the Senate Opposition with the threat that if they don’t attend the vote on the treaty, the whole government coalition will refuse to attend the healthcare vote and they won’t get an quorum. We also say that if they do attend, we will personally commend them and flatter them in a way. We could make it look like they are better candidates for the job of Opposition Leadership.

I say 1/3rd because if we invite all of them, we will fail.”

The Senate Majority Leader is in shock and nods.

“That actually might work. But the Majority Whip is on a leave of absence. Perhaps you want to assist me with the calls?”

“It’d be a honor, sir.”

“Great, I will fax you a list of people you can call. I’ll call the other 1/3rd.”
