Hello XKI friends! ^_^
There are only two days left to submit your photos to this year’s Forest Photo Contest! Submissions will close on January 21st at midnight GMT. Anyone from a region that has an embassy with us can submit photos.
If you haven’t dug out your best photos yet or snapped some great new ones for the Contest, I highly suggest you do so. We have four great categories this year!
You can find all the full information here:
Forest Photo Contest 2020
.
2020 has undoubtedly been a year like no other. The general consensus is that it’s been crazy if not outright terrible. But with the holidays and the new year just around the corner, 2020 is finally coming to an end. Before we move on to a hopefully smoother 2021, though, there’s one last thing that needs to be done: the sixth annual Forest Photo Contest! Here's what you need to know: 🌲 We have four categories once again this year: Trees (this category is permanent each year) Light & Dark (photos that display astounding lights and/or shades) Seasons (photos that represent one of the seasons or a certain time of year) 2020 (any photo that resonates with or represents this crazy year)
🌲 You may submit up to 12 photos total. You may choose how to divide those among the different categories, but please do not submit more than 12. 🌲 Please post your photos in the appropriate thread on our forums, located here. You may also submit photos via a link to an image hosting site in a telegram to Mount Seymour. 🌲 The photos must be taken by you, but can be taken at any time (not just during the contest). 🌲 Anyone in Forest or in a region which has an embassy with Forest may submit photographs for the Contest. 🌲 Timing: Submissions will be open from December 18 at 00:00 GMT (7:00pm Dec 18 EST) to January 23rd at 23:59 GMT. Voting will begin on January 23rd at 23:59 GMT and end January 30th at 23:59 GMT. 🌲 Voting will take place on a Google Form. Needless to say, please no puppeteering! 🌲 The photographers with the top three photographs in each category will have their photos acknowledged on our RMB, on our World Factbook Entry, and potentially in our next foreign update. A banner will also be created with a collage of the top photos to applaud the winners, and participants in the competition will be encouraged to add it as their nation's custom banner. Forest's flag will also be changed to the 1st place photos in each category for a week after the Contest. Now it's time to head out and start photographing! Good luck to everyone! Any questions about the Contest should be directed to Mount Seymour.
.
You can head over to Forest's forums (https://forest.freeflarum.com/t/photo-contest) to submit your photos, or you can telegram links to the images to me.
Happy submitting! :)

So I don't know if any of you guys were around back when I was just starting my job training. I was panicking, not really sure where my life was going, and vented in the RMB because I felt like it was a safe, anonymous place to get some good advice.
Well I just wanted to say I finished my training and am officially living that dev life, and I feel like some of the credit should go out to the 10KI community for giving me that little extra oomph. You guys are some real ones.

Basically the buddy system is where an experienced player helps you privately develops your nation and understand the game and it’s mechanics. Asking them a question will probably get a better answer, but if you want you can always also ask on the embassy :)

Well I wasn't there when you first posted that, but congratulations!

Hello Novas avalon, and welcome to XKI! Here is a guide that might help you:
Welcome to 10000 Islands! If you're new to the game, you're probably wondering what all of the site features are and how they work. You'll find that NationStates is a seemingly simple browser game with a rich community and a depth of features and game play developed by players over the course of almost 18 years. 10000 Islands is one of the oldest regions in the game, dating back to 2002, with a continuously operational defender military and active regional government. Opening Steps The first thing you'll want to do, if you haven't already, is to answer your issues. In NationStates, you function as the all-powerful leader of your nation and Issues are how you effect your government's policy and national statistics. Issues are the only way to effect these and you'll have to wait for more issues once you've answered them all. To learn more about issues, you can check out the 10000 Islands issue and stats lounge or this Issue answering FAQ. While you wait to receive more issues, you should join the World Assembly (WA). Joining the WA requires that you input your email address on the settings page (know that your email will not be visible to other users and NationStates does not send you spam emails!). Joining the World Assembly is important because it grants you a say in developing international law through the General Assembly and preserving international peace through the Security Council. More importantly, joining the WA grants you citizenship in 10000 Islands, which allows you to participate in elections and run for office. Once you've joined the World Assembly, be sure to endorse the World Assembly Delegate Astrobolt. Endorsing the Delegate gives the region more power in the World Assembly because the Delegate's vote is weighted so they receive an extra vote for each WA endorsement they have. You can also decide how the WA Delegate votes once you're registered on the forum by participating in WA voting polls. After you've done that, you can get involved in our regional community by signing up for the regional forum. The forum is the main headquarters for our regional government, economy, cultural events, our defender military, and role-playing. When you sign up for the forum, it's important to follow the instructions in the first post of this thread so that an Account Masker can go through and confirm your account to give you access to appropriate areas of the forum. The last thing to do is join our regional Discord server. Discord is a live chat platform that we use to hang out and get to know our region-mates a little better. Stop by to meet some new friends! Once you've done these four things (answer Issues, join the WA, sign up on the forum, and introduce yourself on Discord), you're all set! From there, take your own path and discover what about 10000 Islands interests you. The rest of this Dispatch is an index of guides and resources for you to look at. Guides and Set Up

First Owlograd-Durrnilian Vexillology Contest!
There are four rounds, each with a different topic:
Futuristic
Authoritarian
Communist
Religious
In each round, a different flag will be submitted. After the deadline, the Judges will judge and score the contestant's flag on a Ten-Point scale. The contestant with the most total points by the end of the contest wins. Failure to submit a flag before the deadline (TBD) will result in a zero for that round.
Grading Protocol:
The flags will be graded on 3 factors: How well the flag matches the theme, how visually appealing the flag is, and the vexillological rules broken by the flag. The panel of judges will debate on how well the flag matches these factors and will find a consensus.

Drew Durrnil, please do not advertise on our RMB
Also, in the future, and I see you fixed this, but err away from having people design fascistic symbols for a flag designing competition!
