Virus spreads...
Cases of the unidentified virus originating from Ascoobis have spread rapidly in the League, with cases having been reported and hospitalised in all provinces. The Arophon has requested that all families of the League sacrifice in accordance to their means to Sykades, and renew their piety to assist in the end of the disease.

Rebirth Island Creature
Locals living near the shores of Rebirth Island, Uzbek SSR, spotted a bizarre creature washing up on the shore. The creature was described as being part cat and part human. It was deceased when police arrived to check to see what it was. Immediately the army detachment from the nearby base cordoned off the area and removed the body. The initial statement from the military is that the creature was a lynx that escaped from the island.
USSR Virus Free
The Ascoobian virus was confirmed to no longer be in the USSR. The final death count after the Byelorussia outbreak was 25. Restrictions remain in place but have been greatly relaxed with travel bans still in place until the virus is eradicated.
A treatment involving vitamin c and penicillin has been approved for use in the USSR and was successful in stopping the Byelorussia outbreak from getting worse.
Sputnik 1 Launch A Success
Sputnik 1 was successfully launched into orbit. The satellite beamed back a radio transmission and will do so for the next few days until it reenters the earth. This is a great success for the USSR.
Ascoobis and The panselian league

A royal council meeting has been ordered by the king Erkerctus I to decide on goverment actions to contain the Ascobian virus as much as possible. The king proposed that we stop allowing tourists to come for vacation in Herti. However, mister Azikjel argued that the tourism industry would be completely ruined and the economy will take a heavy toll. He further suggested that the goverment should allow a limited amount of foreigners and all of them have to be thoroughly checked up for any unusual symptoms. His point was backed by mister Jarker. After a lot of debate, the voting results were in.
Completely close the borders: 3 votes
Allow a limited amount of checked tourists: 5 votes

Baba Yaga Movement Changes
The military as well as we here at Pravda have received a letter from the Romanov insurrection group Baba Yaga after months of silence after the execution of the Russian Patriarch. We will read it for you
"You did not defeat us, rather you have driven us deeper into the shadows. If anything you have helped our movement now that you made one of our own a martyr. You even had the socialist nation of Ascoobis turn her back against you. For that we want to thank you for helping us. When the world hears of Communism they will immediately think of despotism as opposed to the pipe dreams of deluded men.
We have further consolidated our power with the growing disgruntled peoples both here and members of our diaspora living abroad. Our objective for the time being is further consolidation until we revolt. We have changed our name to The Brotherhood Of Russian Truth(or if you will, The Brotherhood or Baba Yaga if you wish to use old labels)
Peoples of the world, stay glued to your television sets and radios for the tide will change in Russia. To foreign and domestic agents still looking for me, you can't catch a ghost. Catch me if you can!

It appears that the threat against the USSR has not gone away and will linger until our government erases them from the Soviet conscience. Comrade Brezhnev has authorized the KGB to further look into the matter and has asked world leaders to not associate with a terror group.
Baikonur Becomes Base For Space Program
The Baikonur Cosmodrome in Kazakhstan SSR has become the permanent base for the Soviet Space Program. The site was deemed to be ideal due to its location in the steppes away from civilization. All further space launches will be conducted from Baikonur.

The king ordered another council meeting at the request of the minister of internal affairs, mister Jarker. He adressed the transportation problem that plagued Hertia for months now.
"Ever since we imposed a ban on automobiles, Hertian citizens relied on transportation by train. The problem is, our railways are too underdeveloped to serve the entire Hertian population. This has caused major practical problems and soon enough, it will start taking a toll on our economy. We need to take swift action, before the people start protesting."
Then followed mister Azikjel (minister of economy).
"There's a pretty logical solution here. We simply revoke the ban. After all, I made my opinion clear from the beginning that this was an insane idea. We shouldn't prioritize the enviroment over our people's well being."
King Erkectus, however, had other ideas.
"There is an alternative to all of that. What we could do, is greatly extend the Hertian railways so that it becomes more efficient for everyone. People could transposrt easily. We could also build more stations and make transportation cheaper. Plus, our strong economy can handle it. With our manufacturing and contributions from Vostner railways inc, it will take no more than 5 months to finish the construction."
The debate lasted for about 2 hours, but alas, the results were in:
- Revoke the ban on automobiles: 3 votes
- Extend and develop the railway system: 5 votes

Outrage in Cyprus as temple attacked...
Anger has swept across Cyprus following an attack yesterday on a temple in Kironis. The temple, raised and dedicated to Mora, spirit of victory, was built in 1938 to commemorate the victory of the League over the Kingdom of Pontus, and the acquisition of the island of Cyprus from that conflict. Whilst later temples to Tythios, Rhaia, and other supreme gods have been built, the temple of Mora has long been associated with the legitimacy of League rule over Cyprus, and resentment against it has been understood since its foundation.
Never before however has the temple been attacked. Yesterday, the sacred precinct was violated by a small crowd of an estimated fifty rioters, who harmed with various tools such as hammers and bars, vandalised the temple by hammering at the columns, walls, destroying votive offerings, and defacing the cult statue of Mora herself, which was added to the temple in 1940. Alarmed citizens of Kironis, which has functioned as the administrative capital of the wider Cypriot civilian and military administration, reacted to the sudden assault against the temple, pursuing the rioters up to the sacred precinct where a violent clash erupted.
The armed rioters turned their tools on the mostly unarmed citizens, and four have been confirmed dead due to injuries sustained, whilst a number of others have been hospitalised. The Kironis City Guard was able to respond during the clash, and apprehend the majority of the rioters after subduing them.
This morning, crowds gathered in the public square of Kironis calling for the death penalty for the rioters, who are expected to face criminal trial in the coming weeks.
