Government allows cloning of Embryos
The people of New Sankara have been engaged in heated debate recently over an effort by the scientific community to advance research by cloning human embryos. Ascoobian virus confirmed in the League...
The unknown flu-like virus that emerged in Ascoobis, and has spread to multiple nations, has been confirmed for the first time in the League as numerous people have been hospitalised following infection and worsening of conditions. It is believed that the virus may have entered the League due to tourism, either a returning Selian from Ascoobis or Washington, or a tourist from either of those two nations, prior to the closure of airports. The League has similarly now ordered a restriction on international travel, in order to try and limit the virus' spread. Cases have however already been confirmed both in the Italian peninsula and Selia proper.
The city-states of the League are responding with an increased production in medical aid to try and assist the sudden rise in patients, and makeshift hospitals are being created in the worst-hit areas.

You have by now received the news of my punishment by execution. I do not wish for your condolences nor any empty words. I knew the risks of speaking against such a satanic regime and I have been called back home by Our Lord. My last days in this wretched world have been peaceful as they have allowed me to keep a Bible and my chotki.
There is no doubt my execution will create rage both in the state and aboard by Christian, Jew and Gentile. I am fortunate they have given me a roommate(one of the Jewish doctors from that false plot). The Soviets attack Jew and Christian alike because our allegiance is not to earthly masters but to God. I thank God every day that I have been allowed to speak to the world and to meet with the Romanovs in my last years. I am confident that my death will be the start of something new. It is my dying prayer that Russia will change when I'm gone.
If you are reading this, whomever you are or wherever you may be I ask you these things. The first is to pray for peaceful times. The second is to be a force for change in your nation. Christ will guide you through the Will of God. This is my last letter to the world before I die.

Airports shuttered in response to Ascoobian virus
The Pontic government has announced this morning that all public airports in Pontus are to be closed indefinitely as part of a wider response to the spread of the yet-unnamed flu virus that originated in Ascoobis in January.
As detailed in the statement put forth shortly before lunchtime, all flights from and into the country are cancelled effective as of 12:00 PM with any planes already en route to be subject to thorough inspections by representatives of the Civil Aviation Authority and Pontic State Security to ensure all on board are virus-free. Border checkpoints have also been ordered to restrict access to all but the most essential foreign traffic and patrols at a number of possible crossing points elsewhere have been doubled to prevent illicit entry by infected peoples. Given that much of the kingdom's borders with its neighbours have been effectively sealed off for over a decade, it is expected that the process will not be a particularly lengthy one.
As of the time of writing, no cases of the virus have yet been reported in Pontus. Nevertheless, we strongly advise everyone reading to exercise proper caution at this time.

Patriarch Alexey condemned to death
Communist Party mouthpiece Pravda confirmed on Friday afternoon that Patriarch Alexey I of Moscow and all the Rus' has been sentenced to death by a Soviet court.
Charged with "treason, illegal proselytising, illegal assembly, spreading anti-Soviet propaganda and aiding insurrection", the Russian cleric was convicted on all counts by a tribunal packed full of party hardliners. Though the verdict was practically guaranteed given the complete lack of due process in the Soviet "justice" system, its deliverance has nonetheless had an immediate reaction with numerous figures on all rungs of the Eastern Orthodox ladder decrying the sentence and indeed the whole trial as a declaration of war on Eastern Christianity itself.
In a surprisingly brief ceremony held before crowds of onlookers at the gates of Parliament, Prime Minister Aemon Dalgyreon of Pontus stood alongside several prominent figures from the Pontic Church to address the events in question.
"To the Kremlin, to the Communist Party and to President Leonid Brezhnev, we have only one thing left to say to you. The world is watching. All of Christianity is watching. Your people are watching. Today, you condemn a man to death. Tomorrow, the oppressed masses living under your godless banner condemn your rule to the dustbin of history. God have mercy on you, because after Patriarch Alexey leaves this world to join his side there will be none left for you here."

Patriarch Executed
Patriarch Alexey I was executed today on May 9, 1951. He was executed by firing squad at sunrise. He gave no last words and denied the blindfold when offered. When he was confirmed dead, his body was taken to be buried in an unnamed location. The now underground Russian Orthodox Church stated they will find a replacement regardless of their status of being banned.
RDS 3 Tested
The RDS 3 Atomic bomb was successfully tested in Kazakhstan. The bomb, nicknamed Marya, was airdropped from a bomber jet at an altitude of 400 meters. This bomb used plutonium in its core with uranium as its shell.
Further research is being conducted on further tests with underwater testing being proposed.
May Day Celebrations A Succes
The USSR celebrated May Day despite the threat of a pandemic in other countries. This year foreigners were barred from entering the country entirety. Minsk did not hold celebrations due to the infection in a Minsk apartment block. Parades were held in all Soviet capitals involving the workers and the military. The Red Navy stationed in Crimea celebrated by sounding the horns of their ships and firing their canons.
Byelorussia Infection Contained
The outbreak in Byelorussia has been fully contained in the apartment block with only 10 reported deaths due to complications. The 10 were elderly who developed pneumonia as a result of the virus. The remaining few hundred(150 were confirmed)were confirmed to be recovering and are expected to fully recover. All of those infected have given samples of blood and mucus in hopes to further study the virus and see if specific treatments can target the virus. For right now the virus is affected by penicillin and vitamin c. The apartment block continues to be sealed off and Minsk is expected to lift their shutdown tomorrow with no further cases in the USSR.
