Region: Lazarus

Leonism wrote:The Imperialer Senat, the upper house of parliament in Leonism, has passed a motion to promote a city twinning programme with cities all over Lazarus. The idea is to promote international friendship and cultural exchange. A city can have several "twins" from different countries. Ideally, the twins should be roughly similarly sized.

Several cities have already announced their intention to seek twinning agreements with other cities in Lazarus:

  • Leestcheck - the capital, a modern, purpose built and green city of 1.5 million inhabitants. Home to many students, scientists, bureaucrats, soldiers and politicians.

  • Blaumeisehaven - the maritime metropolis and gateway to the world. 25 million inhabitants. Has both the largest port and largest airport of Leonism. A centre of commerce, but also a huge naval base and home to two universities of great importance.

  • Reichenbach - mid-sized city dominated by its manufacturing industry and one of the most important army bases in West Leonism. 600,000 inhabitants.

  • Tannenberg - a rather remote town in East Leonism, dominated by agriculture. 70.000 inhabitants. Stunning views of the nearby Tannenberge mountains. The secretive Gebiet 42 weapons test area is nearby.

  • Werderhafe - a run-down coastal city of 120.000 inhabitants, near Blaumeisehaven. Fishing and tourism dominate the local economy.

More cities are expected to follow. Any foreign city interested in a twinning arrangement with Imperial cities should inquire for help at the Aussenministerium, who will assist in establishing contact with suitable candidate cities.

This actually reminds me of a story from my youth, where a farmer friend of my father's, who styled himself the Mayor of Bristol (a town that had barely existed, even in legend) Iowa, was invited to Bristol, in the U.K, and subsequently hosted that city's mayor at his house.
