It would be cool if the Crossian monarchy were descended from the Calptionion monarchy, even more so if they were from Crossian, as that would give an easy reason why Calption controlled Crossia, the Crossian monarchy inherited Calption. It would also give them a longer history as well.
Yeah that works, I was just having trouble figuring out how to put The Cross into it (The group that formed Crossia) They could work as the supporters of the Calptionion monarch after Calption’s revolution.
Alright, so there is revolution in Calption, royal family is executed, the Cross forms as the Crossians see this as an opportunity to secede from Calption, and the Nephew of the former king and other members of the former monarchy flee to Crossian. There the Cross kicks the Calptionion revolutionaries out with the help of Calotionion monarchists, and Crossia is established with the Nephew of the former king being proclaimed king of Crossia.
This is really good, but I do see a problem with it, why do the former royal family of Calption form a new nation instead of reviving the old one?
Because retaking Calption would effectively be impossible as no one liked them there as they are Crossian and the revolution was caused by Calptinion nationalists resenting the fact that Calption was not ruled by Calotionuins, but in Crossia, the nationalists would welcome them because they are Crossian.
Ah, ok that makes sense, I thought you meant the royal family was Calptionion so I got confused.
I’ll make a factbook page about this event
We could also add that The Cross were effectively in control of what is now Crossia for at least hundred years before the revolution (right behind the government) The Cross are the reason why Crossia and Crossians are called what they, Crossia: Land of The Cross.
Maybe the cross could refer to a group of nobles who were tasked with ruling the region after the Crossian royal family moved to Calption after inheriting it, with them being able to do whatever they wanted, but still being loyal enough to pay taxes and send levies.
This could also mean there’s a lot of both Calptionions and Crossians spread around both sides of the border.
