"Snow White and Bilbo Baggins: Divergences and Convergences Between Disney and Tolkien"
by the Tolkien scholar Trish Lambert

I found this really fascinating. Both Tolkien's The Hobbit and Disney's Snow White came out in the same year, with each featuring the, until that point, little utilized dwarf character. Places Tolkien in a context I'd not considered, previously, and there's all sorts of great observations in it.

One tidbit between Tolkien and Lewis struck me, where they were discussing Walt Disney, and bemoaning that they could not have met him before he became the commercial machine of the Disney brand and merchandising engine. Made me think of George Lucas and his early promise becoming swallowed up by the Star Wars machine. Anyway, lots of neat stuff in there:

I wish you a good morning quote from Gandalf

Maybe it was a compliment to the morning. Like saying 'Good boy' to a dog.

Good morning :)

Good morning :)

Why would you compliment a time of day as if it were an animate object? Is it a congratulation to the morning for being "good"?

Could be you are congratulating the personification of the morning.

"Good Morning. Look how well you stretched your rosy fingers across the sky, today. Great job."

Good day to you all.

The wordplay of your nation's name made me smile.

Welcome back to the region

Hehe, thank you!

Dear friends and neighbours,

I have not been active in the recent 9 months or so, and I believe that I won't be as active for the following 2-3.
I did keep an eye out, but nothing as important as the Delegacy seat implies or would involve.

I have also seen some very old members return to the game, which pleased me a lot!

For that matter, please know that I am looking forward to extend the Delegacy seat to another member of our community if so the community feels like. I will try to make arrangements to return to a more active presence in the following months, but as far as the last year is concerned, I had concentrated on matters outside of the Tolkien's (or of the game's) world.

I am, however, very pleased to see some of our members, and new members, be active and social and insightful!
