American rail won't make a difference. A british motorway's 70MPH is faster then a USA train's top speed.

And the Interstate from Missoula to Billings is 80MPH for most of the way, and it still usually takes 8 hours.
Trains literally cannot do worse.

Additionally, that assumes that the new line won't be a high-speed rail line, which is allowed to run up to 110MPH, or higher depending on the area.
