As the second millennium comes to a close and the third rises, the Earth and human civilization is almost unrecognizable as it was 1000 years ago. A united libertarian society, free from wars against petty dictators and bureaucrats, free from wars of religion, free from genocides. The interest of space colonization and exploration has had a considerable decline since the 2100s. Nothing to gain due to the lack of even a proof of concept of colonization. Though, by the 3000s one would assume this would be different. While this might be true, it was not. Though, Acolyte engineers researched and collaborated with massive corporations until it happened. They finally discovered a technology which in practice could allow for colonization of planets in the solar system. By 3100, 64 landings and probes prepared the moon for a large colony on its surface. And, 4 years later, construction of a permanent colony started using artificial gravity devices, basing it around a nuclear reactor. Being completed 20 years later, this base housed around 1000 people who managed to grow food using a mixture of advanced methods. This proved that space colonization could be possible on Mars or any feasible planet. This started the Golden Age of Humanity, in which multiple planets were colonized.
After the colony on the moon, the question of Mars arose. The possibility of terraforming it and having a separate earth was a beautiful sight. Though, the Acolytes set their sights on Europa, a moon of Jupiter. The planet was artificially warmed through a long process which took around 150 years. It was heated until it had temperatures from its average at -20F degrees to its highest at -5F. A large amount of soil, steel and other building materials, was shipped to the planet to form artificial land masses. Though, while this was all occurring, a small colony of 500 people was made, similar in design to the one on the moon. 1 spaceport each was built on Mars and the moon, making travel between the colonies and earth easier. The Golden Age of Humanity really set in. Just over a quarter of the 3rd millennium was over, yet it already looked to be the best millennium in the history of man.
