*chop*

Nhoor's duodecimal system and language, which probably makes tailor-made computers rather expensive. The keyboard can be adapted to include the additional letters and accents but imagine companies like Mciorsoft or Aplpe adapting their whole numerical systems and office suites (imagine Excel!) just for one nation... I haven't written much about it yet, but I wouldn't be surprised if most of the younger Nhoor had already switched to the decimal system and that a battle is going on in Nhoor between conservative xenophobes who want to preserve Nhoor's own numerical traditions and progressives who just want things to be easier.

Nhoor's relative cultural isolation due to its language and religion (and the previous reason), which, despite Nhoor being a founding member of ROS, makes Nhoor in general (and this sadly includes the armed forces) less interested in foreign affairs. Nhoor will defend itself, but the government's verbal support of e.g. one or more of the Lesvan factions or condemnations of civil wars or even wars between TWI nations is mostly just theoretical.

[A third weakness that I yet have to conceive]

Edit: "affect", btw.

-snip-

1) The country's national balance is on an ever so slight margin. The budget relies on large growth in multiple sectors to maintain the positive balance. This means that if a single key sector fails to meet expected growth, the country's budget can easily jump into the negative and begin accumulating debt again. Debt spending nearly crippled the economy early on, and the current government wouldn't be able to manage it successfully like the last ones, which could lead to a recession of the local economy.

2) The military has been a large issue for decades, with over reliance on the old conscription laws from the last 50 years to fill out the armed forces. Even with the current shift away from conscription to a more professional model, the wide array of development and research projects has pulled resources away from actually training and fielding equipment and personnel, leading to an armed forces that will be wholly unprepared for any long term conflict for the next decade or so.

3) The birth rate since the 80's had been growing until the 2010's when it began to decline slightly. While this has been often viewed as a good thing, the economy and government has struggled to secure funding for public services such as health care to compensate for the rapidly increasing population. On top of this, for the last 30 years young people have been flocking to the cities in search of better paying jobs, and leaving the rural areas of the country undermanned for agriculture or small businesses. The increasing urbanization has also lead to economic disparities from the larger cities and the smaller counties, which leads to unbalanced funding for the various population centers from provincial and federal sources.

Amestrris' would be:

Due to Amestrris' geographic location being so isolated, establishing efficient trade and diplomatic relations has been difficult in prior history; recent globalization has alleviated this issue immensely. However, the conditions naturally led to isolationist and nationalistic policies in the past, which still reverberate now. Amestrris has made, and is currently making, efforts to counteract the impacts of isolationism. This has also led to an imbalance in military forces, where funding favours air and naval forces, leading to a lack of funding of ground forces.

Yeah, yeah, I know lol... I didn't want to bug for a third time to change my map position, especially as a new nation :P

Amestrris would be considered a utopian dystopia. One reason is that the current president has been serving for many terms, since Amestrris lacks presidential term limits. This president was extremely popular over the majority of the course of his tenure. However, discontent is rising among people, as they're faced with an aging president that is comfortable in his position. Despite being a developed democracy, faith in elections is on a decline and the population is starting to doubt the freeness and fairness of the elections. Some believe it is time to instate term limits, but they ar emet with stiff opposition, especially from the President, his ministers, and the Lansrat (the legislature).

Sort of a repeat, but although Amestrris has a powerful, heavily-funded air force and navy, ground forces struggle from a lack of domestically manufactured equipment and funding in general. Often, the equipment is either lacking, or needs to be imported from other nations.

Consumerism is a major issue for Amestrris, which is a nation that balances the demands of opulence and lavish lifestyles/comforts with strong socialist/welfare policies on a razor's edge. Because of this, Amestrris relies heavily on imports for basic resources and materials to feed its demands, despite having a richness of its own resources. This issue is compounded by Amestrris' geographic isolation, which causes imports to become expensive. This threatens socialist policies, welfare programs, and healthcare.

I actually talked about this some time back.

With a Gini coefficient of 49.8%, Baumes' income inequality is amongst the highest in the world. 28% of the nation's population lives with a daily wage of just $6.85, and 3.4% of the nation earns less than $2.15 (extreme poverty). This issue has often been linked to Baumes' low level of education and lack of welfare, limiting opportunities for those in the lower class. Nevertheless, not many changes have been made, although education has slightly improved over the years. Corruption is another factor, with Baumes frequently being ranked among the most corrupt in the world. Another commonly cited factor is political instability. Years of wars, economic despair, and government oppression meant that most Baumish citizens have lived their entire lives filled with abrupt changes to their surroundings and terrible economic situations.

If you look at a map of Baumes, you'd be quick to find out that most of Baumish infrastructure is highly centered along the eastern and northern coastal regions, which is where most of the larger cities with bigger economies exist. While highways do exist in other regions, most of them only connect bigger cities, leaving smaller towns starved of resources or connection. This has made connectivity in Baumes very hard, especially when half of the nation is still living in rural areas. The main reason for this is Baumes' highly complex geography. Rainforests, rivers, and a highly contrasting topography make building infrastructure a tough and expensive challenge. With such projects being too much of an effort to the government, most of them never happen.

The Baumish government never really had an interest in welfare, considering it being of little interest or priority to them. It's considered too much of a burden on government spending when it could be spent on other more important matters. The government also believes that such a system would create a dependency on welfare programs, which would reduce worker productivity and increase unemployment rates. This is also why Baumes' poverty situation remains terrible; people don't necessarily have the starting resources in order to build a good career path.

I've already discussed this earlier but I'll dive deeper into what I was on about. Most of this political instability happened right after the Imperial War, when Baumes and its economy were in absolute ruins from a long, devastating war. It didn't help that the government acted as if nothing had happened, and was very slow to rebuild the nation. This led to massive social and political unrest and in 1952 the communist party performed a successful coup. They rebuilt the economy and infrastructure but it was a highly oppressive and authoritative regime. Still, things seemed to begin looking up for everyone, until an economic crisis in 1982 fuelled by a war and heavy inflation caused the communist party to get removed the following year. Still, the economic crisis continued growing and it wouldn't be until 1989 that the crisis was declared over. However, economic recovery was still a long way to go and it wouldn't be until the late 1990's that the economy got back on track.

Tricklandia is not a Mary Sue nation! (Not that much.)

Tricklandia has not yet fully transitioned from dictatorship in the 80s to fully functional democracy, and many measures that were to be temporary ended up staying, with their removal vetoed out by all sorts of figures throughout the decades due to reasons ranging from "efficiency" to veiled attempts at keeping power. (Every once in a while, a party promises to reform the system, and promptly doesn't. It has become a sort of political meme.) While ranked choice voting is in act, and Tricklandians have many political parties to choose from, results of elections often sharply dictate what the country's successive four years will be. The Parliament is unicameral, and the winning party gets half of the seats plus one, full stop, while the runner-up gets a quarter. This means that the winning party, if it is all uniform in voting, can decide whether any law needing 50% majority passes or not, and if the requirement is two thirds, a winner and second place coalition can be the only say in the question. Tricklandia is at serious risk of radicalizing if two parties on the same side of the spectrum come first and second together, a phenomenon that has been dubbed "shifted government".

Due to reasons cited in the above spoiler, the average young age of Tricklandians, and the country's national history, which has seen two colonizations and many mishandles of governing power, the population is extremely vocal and fierce. It is not sharply divided or even divided at all on some issues (such as civil rights), but it very much is on other matters, like economic theory and international affairs. Tricklandians are not generally racist (save for the RHR...), and racist views are often seen as absolutely taboo to say out loud (like in Scandinavian countries, pretty much), but they can be xenophobic, particularly in regards to conservative countries. So, for example, talking about Arab people in a disparaging way is a no-no, but heavily criticizing and insulting Najimam's government and its main figureheads would raise agreement. Of course, separate demographics may differ in liked and disliked countries, which generates conflict.
To extend upon this, classism is a very real thing, with leftwing Tricklandians leaving no doubts about how they stand behind "Eat the rich" as a slogan, while rightwing voters can often be rude to people depending on basic income or working low-wage jobs, and often lament discrimination. This is all, though, in the context of a high trust society, one where (respectful) small talk with strangers and free display of emotions are often seen.

On the topic of showing emotion and agreeing on some things... If there's a thing Tricklandians do well, it's taking issues to the streets. Much like the French, whenever something happens that many people do not like, entire cities shut down in a flurry of freedom-yearning displays. And chaos ensues. Case on point: the recent Neighborhood Watch riots. (Those were pretty unprecedented, but nonetheless, it's normal to see large movements rise up twice or thrice a year in Tricklandia.)

The Tricklandian state employs extremely high taxes especially on businesses, routinely clamps down on tax elusion, and does not pursue economic growth as its main focus, but only as a collateral. If you're a citizen of Tricklandia, you'll surely be able to make at least a decent living even doing nothing. If you want to rise up above a certain wealth threshold by investing, though, it gets harder and harder the more time passes. As a result of this, the nation's economy hasn't really grown in the last 25 years or so, remaining stable or slightly decreasing. Its currency does not inflate, and slightly deflates instead. Tricklandia's economy kind of follows real life Japan's after their bubble burst, except poorer and even worse for business, which more often than not moves its headquarters abroad and tries to stay below the TAFL's radar. Very large Tricklandian companies that are not mostly owned by the state and do not claim to be from Saint Ardor or other tax havens are rare to come by. So, in regards to corporate, Tricklandia might as well be a developing country.

As with Takiv, Tricklandia also has a very low military budget, amounting to only 0.88% of GDP, or $4.98bn. The reasons are pretty similar, mainly the cost of the welfare state (which, for Tricklandia, includes monumentally costly things such as UBI), and, in addition, the fact that military research is usually convoluted in the education budget and set in the realm of academics instead of defense, lowering its importance even further. Tricklandia often has to take a moderate approach even in self-important matters to not attract too much attention. The nation's main arsenal is comprised of equipment from the 1980s at most, with some exceptions.

This also connects to weakness number 1. In Tricklandia, there is no civilian police force. Law and order is solely maintained by the TAL (+ the TAFL), which is a military force specialized in day-to-day operations and with extra psychological training. They wear camo. They move around in military vehicles. They carry a taser, sometimes a baton, but they often have firearms on the back of their armored car. This can go very wrong very quickly, and it has done so in the past.
This situation is still here in 2024 due to Tricklandia actually training the TAL as an actual infantry force. They specialize in guerrilla tactics and close quarter combat, to stop criminal in their tracks, but also to defend the nation in case of invasion by a much larger force. The constrained military budget has made this a choice to be taken.

What would you consider the top three largest weaknesses that your nation has currently, and how do they effect your nation?

In regards to Solaryia, they’d be (spoiled for long):

1. Overreliance on global markets, both as a main focus of the Solaryi economy and in regards to the national food supply. This stems from the country having very little productive arable land and a very large population for its size, requiring massive amounts of food and other essential goods to be shipped into the country daily. While these risks have been mitigated due to the formation of ROS and the economic security that it provides, any substantial worldwide economic or food crisis will cause increased prices at best, and food shortages and mass unrest at worst. In addition, the nation’s focus on trade and international finance leads the country to be sensitive towards changes in the financial market, as can be seen from the brief recession that occurred during the Great Gael Crash. As an related factor, this leads the Solaryi government to be relatively… ambivalent towards nations whom may not be the most democratic or have a good record of civil rights, as long as they don’t interfere in the nation’s trade, and militantly defensive against any nation that threatens their trade.

2. A government with a penchant for authoritianism. While the Solaryi government has been fully democratic since the closing of the Imperial War, and they’ve had many democratic traditions carry over from centuries of local, devolved government rule, the national government has consolidated substantial amounts of government power into the Consular position (and Subconsul and Proconsuls under them), which is only compounded with the absurd 20 year term limit (albeit with 4 5-year elections). This gives relative control over both the executive and legislative branches of the Solaryi government to a singular figure, leaving the primary opposition to only be the judicial branch and the Solaryi High Court. While the weaknesses in the government’s system of checks and balances have yet to be fully exploited, they’ve come relatively close, with the consolation of power under Ensi Alsen only ceasing in his assassination.

3. Lastly, while the country does have freedom of speech and most of the basic rights seen in developed the counties, the country’s justice system has a trend of relatively strong oppression towards lawbreakers, whether they be common criminals, repeat felons, or unlawful protestors. The county’s rules are enforced fairly, but are very harsh, and incarcerated people can find themselves in long sentences and manual labour within relatively harsh and isolated prisons. There have also been occasional reports of police brutality and physical violence against the accused, however these are vehemently denied by the government.

So, in response to the whole polls showing that Dormill and Stiura is the best nation in TWI and people would love to at least visit it if not live in it, I've decided to look back over an old question Ostehaar posed to me three years back (page=rmb/postid=20759354) (page=rmb/postid=26891217). I'm going to look at both my original response and the more recent response I did as part of my Collaboration factbook last month and go over what's changed, what stayed the same, what I would like to bring back, and what's going to stay in the past. First off, the original:

Dormill and Stiura wrote:Since this is suddenly relevant, I'll kill two birds with one stone, with unique names as well :P.

Ain't Reconstruction a b!tch? As a result of the Dormill-Stiuraian Civil War, the United Estates has been trying for a long time to get proper infrastructure to the whole nation. In particular, the Estates of Stiura, Lower Kaelectia (particularly the southern half), and southern New Friesland have fairly piss-poor infrastructure compared to the remainder of the nation. This has the side effect of disconnecting these people from the political giants of New Avillon and Upper Kaelectia, though it is fortune that has prevented a worst case scenario from developing from this.

The Black Sheep of Stiura. Thanks to the United State of Dormill and Stiura being led from Stiura Hall, some Stiuraians are stereotyped as nazi scumbags who find pleasure in violence and secession. Though this has been far from true (and in many cases, Stiuraians have been very patriotic in regards to the United Estates), a 27 year-long war against them has not made well on their image. The government has conceded multiple reparations towards the Stiuraians but several demands in the past were rejected and has politically disenfranchised Stiura as a whole. The recent destruction of the National People's Dormill-Stiuraian Party, whose members were mostly Stiuraian, is seen as a massive blow by New Avillon against a since loyal Estate.

Nothing left to scrape. Again a result of the Civil War (this will be a constant theme), in combination with the previous world wars, the Dormill-Stiuraian population has been cut significantly in the last century and it's only been recently that population growth has been shown. The armed forces are very limited in the manpower they can call on and the economy has less workers to keep it driving in a competitive global economy. The government has done some considerable work to good effect in this field, however, encouraging both immigration from around the region and tax incentives for large families. Eventually, this problem will be alleviated but the United Estates sits in a precarious spot if it has to fight a major conflict against a comparable opponent.

And now for strategic concerns!

Surrounded and Isolated. Due to political considerations over the last few months, the United Estates has failed to find a group of allies it can rely upon, and risks run high as some fear if nothing is done soon, a second civil war might break out in a second attempt to gain new allies. At the moment, the UE has looked at entering the Gael Four, the Cooperative Union, and establishing an alliance with the former long-time rival Veridi to secure interests in the south, but work has been hard and with the Lower Kaelectians disabling the Council in early June, things have bogged down.

Foreign Weapons. The domestic armaments industry has been completely shattered by the Civil War and without it, the United Estates has to wholly rely on foreign arms to build its armed forces. The threat of any current trading partner cutting off arms shipments into the United Estates has put commanders in a spot, and have tried almost endlessly to jump-start a domestic arms industry to supplant foreign arms before that becomes a reality.

Shell-shock doesn't make rocks. All Dormill-Stiuraians have either lived through or have been told of the very recent Civil War, and every member of the armed forces are essentially veterans of that conflict. Those who did fight have been less than cooperative towards other soldiers, growing hostile to those who come from Estates that fought against them during the conflict. Dividing the armed forces based on regional lines is a stupid and ultimately dangerous move so the military has to face with a demoralized force that on some occasions refuse to work together because somebody fought for the New Revolutionary Army and their CO fought for the United Republics.

and now, the new one

Political Flaws:

Slow? That's not a speed on my McCapitalism Chadburntm? As a Capitalist nation, Dormill and Stiura relies closely on the continued growth of private enterprises to keep the national economy afloat. While this may not be a concern most of the time, a major problem arises whenever the system suffers a major slow-down, which has happened twice since the United Republics reunified in 1995, first in the lead up and aftermath of Baetylus, and second in the wake of a short squeeze killing the nation's largest investment bank in 2011. Recovery since then has been a patchwork job and has exposed several core inequalities about the United Republics that is slowly eating away at the national fabric.

Lady Power always abhors a vacuum. Related to the above 2011 Recession, Dormill and Stiura is also undergoing a major shift in the political dynamics of the nation, new and younger Dormill-Stiuraians who grew up with the new Union have had a unique perspective on how things should be run. Thanks to a abnormally young political ruling class compared to its neighbors, Doraltic policy is becoming increasingly directed by people wishing to take the next big step in the path of Doraltic unification, splitting between a side that wishes to reform the federal system, and those that want to dismantle the federal system in favor of a true democracy. All the while, the old political ruling class is still contending with their loss of power, and will certainly try to take it back over the next several elections.

Who knew political clout was actually tangible? Although popular among the common people both within Dormill and Stiura and abroad, Cedar Dyson is not your average politician. He did not know how to play the political game when he sought office six years ago, and he's still learning how to handle each new situation like a first-year Political Science major. Dyson has expended a significant amount of his political capital early on with several foreign invasions and attempts at diplomatic flexing. While some have been successful, others haven't, and this has caused problems for him among those people who know how the game is played and how to manipulate Dyson's fears of being unable to handle the Presidency against him. He can be caught up in schemes beyond his understanding but don't mistake him for gullible or naïve, this Presidency has taught him much, regardless of how much more he has to learn.

Strategic Flaws:

Myopia. For as long as Dormill and Stiura has existed as a nation, so too has its utter lack of care for trans-Argus affairs or nations. Dormill and Stiura's core strategic concerns are always vested in Gael and the near South, always around securing Dormill and Stiura's economic interests by creating blocs aligned to Dormill and Stiura's interests. This means that the nations of Raedlon and the Mesder are considered irrelevant in almost every aspect. One day though, this line of thinking will come to bite Dormill and Stiura, whether or not its leaders know it.

A Half-Army. In the aftermath of recent conflicts, the United Republics Army has sought out a way to be more prepared for future threats from across the Doraltic sphere. This has resulted in a massive logistical effort to reorganize the Army into units more capable of being responsive both nationally and internationally, but it has only just begun and only around half of the army has completed the process. If the United Republics were caught in a conflict within the next 6-8 months, the Army would be caught flatfooted and be unable to respond to weeks with the proper forces.

The Southern Menance. Balnik is considered by Dormill and Stiura to be the most significant threat to stability in all of Gael. A relatively large nation built from the ground-up of a devastating civil war into the perfect fascist war machine, it's almost a shock that the two nations haven't gone to war in the last 30 or so years. That's not to say there haven't been close calls on both sides, but it does not change the fact that Balnik may well be the one true existential threat to the United Republics out of anything that presently exists in the Isles. As a result, the United Republics' military concerns are focused mostly at countering Balniki threats, leaving a disproportionate amount of forces orientated against the southwestern border, ready for a war that is the dread of such a large part of the nation.

So what's changed?

    The Civil War is gone
Ah the Dormill-Stiuraian Civil War, twenty-three years of hell centered entirely around Dormill and Stiura in the aftermath of the Second World War (now Imperial War). I don't remember the precise context as to why I decided on a civil war for that segment of my history (and it's even more weird now that I *don't* have it since all of Gael now has a civil war in that timeframe) but I do feel a bit more free in what to do with D&S in that era with the civil war out of my way. While it has been nominally replaced with the conflicts now a part of the wider De Strijd period (including the Dormill-Stiura War, the Ardedan Restoration Conflict, the First Arvannan War), there still a large area of peace that I can operate in. That said, the baggage the Civil War gives D&S, especially in the form of Nothing Left to Scrape and Shell-Shock is something that might be worth touching on in the modern context.

    Foreign Weapons is non-applicable
Since a lot of my flaws back then circled back to the Civil War, the lack of it in the last three years allowed me to develop a wholly indigenous arms industry for Dormill and Stiura, something that I both like to have and hate to sit on. Balnik has made this point to me in the past but pushing for a kind of autarky with respect to businesses in general and arms in particular is something that I am uncomfortable with. While I will certainly keep what I've been working on, I'm going to look into ways to restore some of this flaw to D&S, especially post-2011, which I'll cover in the next segment.

All the Republics are now equals
In contrast to the time when Stiura and Kalectia (now Ardeda) were considered to be the redheaded step-children the nation, now they are seen as essential parts of the system, and are relied on as heavily as the remaining Republics (which now number twelve to the original six) to keep the state functioning. While there still remains political tension as is wont for any society, there is no longer a perception that these states and their people are a potential threat to the continued peace.

Now what should I add on?

Political Flaws:

    Young and Stupid
I teased this concept overnight on the Discord, but I'll fully elaborate on it here. In a revival of Nothing Left to Scrape, I am going to flip the concept on its head and start operating D&S as if it was a younger nation, much younger than developed nations tend to be. This will come as the result of major efforts made by the De Vires administration during the Post-Imperial Era to increase the national population after the Imperial War, which was translated as major efforts to encourage large families with plenty of children. This has two impacts in the modern day, (1) basically every living generation that lived through this period from 1955 - 1995, grew up with a much stronger communal mindset than I've written before, with a major emphasis given to settling down in the city with large families; and (2) these people break the previously written mold that Doraltics are individualistic as a nation which is going to be particularly interesting because its the last generation of these people, people like Cedar Dyson, that are now reaching the height of their political power. While this does mean that D&S is highly productive with a large, and young workforce, this is poised to start biting it in the butt as the newest generation, the first to grow up post-reunification, start to take back the individualistic part of the Doraltic identity for themselves. I expect more major counterculture movements alike to #OccupyKapolder to be common going forward.

Strategic Flaws:

    Global Interdependence
This is my previously mentioned restoration of Foreign Weapons for the modern Dormill and Stiura. Instead of the nation being heavily reliant on imported weapons (that's simply impractical now), the problem now is that a major portion of Dormill and Stiura's key industries are reliant on, partially-, or fully owned by foreign nationals or multinational companies, this goes from agriculture to automotives, to arms manufacturing, to even the modern digital services. While some companies I've written so far (such as White-Liang, East Winds, and the Bank of Kapolder) will remain predominantly independent, the rest have become reliant on foreign investment in the wake of the 2011 collapse of Kapolder Investment Solutions and the subsequent recession. This is going to be the biggest thing that tugs on Dyson for the remainder of his time with us, as his previously expended political clout will now start to turn against him, with foreign interests with hands deep in the economy start to put pressure on him to play nice. This is going to be something I'll be open to everybody in TWI about, so if you want a hand on the strings of my government, let me know and we'll work on something going forward.

An Army for War, Lost in Peace. Doraltic military spending is among the highest in the region and accounts for slightly over 4% of the national GDP, which is on the edge of too high for a nation at peace. This has granted the United Republics a large, modern, and capable military but its expense has created economic, logistical, and political strain within the Doraltic government and society. In general, relatively smaller segments of the military engage in regular expeditionary actions and a large portion of units are functionally ready reserve, requiring several weeks to mobilize in the event of a conflict. Further, military planning is oriented towards threats that were more prominent in the past than in the present, where significant threats are few and far between, causing overconfidence within the Doraltic military that may well be exploited by a committed enemy. This now replaces "A Half-Army" as it was time-limited to a section of 2021 when I originally intended to run Inferno over Gael. Since that has not happened, I felt a need to replace it with a broader issue that does not have a time limit.

Thus, in this 2023 Update, the major flaws of Dormill and Stiura are:

Political Flaws

Slow? Where Capitalism goes we don't do slow.
As a Capitalist nation, Dormill and Stiura relies closely on the continued growth of private enterprises to keep the national economy afloat. All the while, the old political ruling class is still contending with their loss of power, and will certainly try to take it back over the next several elections.

Solaryia wrote:Random RMB Question:

Wangano has problems with the following:

Wangano has got not that good civil rights. Thinks like illegal Drugs, Smoking and even being homeless are considered illegal and can get you in big trouble with the local authorities. Also trespassing onto factories, railway tracks, Military Bases and Highways can get you arrested and the most weirdest law in the country is that you can be arrested for blurring the faces of people in the Wanganoan Government and people wearing Military Uniform. Many people in Wangano has complained about the government saying that they are to authoritarian.

Whlie Lezen and the Railway Links between cities in Wangano doesn’t have this problem many other cities in Wangano do. This crime is known as Fare Evasion and is the most common crime in Wangano. Some Fare Evasion incidents have led to violence and acts of terrorism. The largest incident was when 4 buses were set on fire in Barita. Destroying or 4 of the buses. While crime is very low in Wangano Fair Invasion is the most common. The idea of fare evasion is that you get public transport and you don’t buy a ticket or simply just miss paying for public transport. This is a serious issue in Wangano and about 90% of public transportation operators and the government in Wangano have seen this issue and are trying to prevent this from happening by introducing new methods.

Finally we get to a big problem in Wangano and that is having to many companies in some sectors of the economy. Business owners say that the government is way to hungry for more and more companies and is also to hungry on foreign investment. However Wangano banned some foreign investment in the form of Project Enternaji. With the government saying that it would hurt the economy a lot. They then passed a new law saying that ships involved with Project Enternaji won’t be allowed to dock at any harbour in Wangano or enter the territorial waters of Wangano. However this is also because of political views and corruption scandals with the opposition. However this is the only case of big foreign investment being banned. But many say that the Wanganoan Economy wants unlimited money and unlimited foreign and local investment.

Here is a bonus because why not. Wanganoan universities are often criticised for many things. Nor is it hard for foreign Male Students to study in Wangano because all the other males are in the Military doing their conscription. The largest university in the Country Lezen University ranked 8 best university in the country. However Lezen University has been criticised for its bad food, No Internet access and small rooms. At Lezen University the room are small only featuring a bed, tv and closet. With some rooms not even having windows and students have to share the bathrooms and showers. Lezen University is the third best university in Lezen. With the top University in the Country Western Lezen University and Sami Nan University in Bukit Samor being better than Lezen University. Lezen University however did beat the likes of University of Pheng and UEU (Unia Eterna University). Also Lecturer classes have became to packed with some students being made to sit on the fall. A big problem at most of Wanganoan Universities are the Anti-Wanganoan rallies which turn into violence leading to people getting arrested. Meanwhile quite a large number of Wanganoan Students study abroad even male students after Military service. When they have graduated they will return to Wangano to work.

The Faja-class Cruiser were a pair of cruisers built for the Baumish Navy near the end of the Imperial War. Envisioned as a modern and more capable successor to the Mazela-class light cruiser, it was primarily designed to retaliate against the fierce Wellsian Navy at a time when Baumes losing warships to the Wellsians at an astonishing rate. However, design and production delays meant that production only started in 1946, nearly a year behind schedule. The first ship was completed the following year and was commissioned into service at the beginning of 1948. Although a total of 6 ships were planned, only 2 ended up being produced.

The second ship, RBS Santiara commenced production in around mid 1947. However, it was repeatedly delayed and eventually canceled as the end of the war drew nearer and the need for a modern cruiser became less practical. Furthermore, a slumped post-war economy and subsequent revolution meant that the ship was largely forgotten and the unfinished hull would remain in storage until 1955, when the communist government decided to complete the ship and along with it, make significant changes to the design. In 1958, the now larger and revised RBS Santiara was completed and was commissioned into service later the same year.

When it entered the Baumish Navy, RBS Santiara was the largest ship in the fleet and remained as the navy's flagship for more than 2 decades. However, the ship was eventually retired in 1979 and sold to Verska in 1982 following extensive upgrades. It was utilized as a fleet flagship by the Verskan Navy until 2003 when it was turned into a training vessel until being retired and later converted into a floating hotel two years later. In 2008, it was used as a rescue vessel and since 2015 it has been used by a non-profit organization for humanitarian aid. At the time it was retired, the ship was one of the very last gun cruisers used by any navy.

Design and description

In 1944, Baumes was losing to the vastly superior and more prepared Wellsian Navy. The larger and more advanced Wellsian ships were inflicting heavy damages on the Baumish Navy. By 1945, the war between Baumes and the United Partitions was coming to an end, meaning that Baumes' main focus shifted towards Wellsia. As a result, the navy issued a new mandate for a new cruiser that would match its Wellsian counterparts. The design made by Paratejo Construção Naval was eventually chosen. However, production would be subject to multiple delays due to the nature of the project, which was unlike any Baumes had ever made, and the immense pressure to complete the ship.

The first ship, RBS Alanau, was completed by May of 1947 and was commissioned into service with the Baumish Navy on 5 April 1948. The ship's first assignment was to help assist in clearing Wellsian ships attempting to create a blockade around a Baumish-occupied port in a Wellsian island. It managed to help sink a frigate and inflict damage on another frigate. On 28 December, it was tasked to help provide fire support for a nearby assault on a Wellsian fleet near the Vacrusian coast. Although the assault was successful, RBS Alanau sustained heavy damages and shortly thereafter sank.

Construction on RBS Santiara commenced in April of 1947, after nearly half a year of delays. Further delays prevented it from being completed on the mid 1948 deadline and with the war coming closer to an end, construction became slower as it wasn't seen as a priority anymore. As a result, the project was canceled in 1949. After the war, it was largely forgotten about, as Baumes attempted to get its post-war economy back on track. Following the communist takeover, potential plans were made to finish the ship. In 1955, a plan to complete RBS Santiara was approved.

On 5 April 1958, RBS Santiara was commissioned into service. It also coincided with the 10th anniversary of the commissioning of RBS Alanau. The design was largely similar to its sister ship, however, new operating systems and technology were retrofitted into the ship as well. Its displacement was also heavier than the original blueprint design by more than 2,000 tons. The armament and layout of the ship were also modified incorporating lessons learned from the Imperial War. Later on in 1966, anti-ship missiles were added as well, replacing 2 turrets with a missile launcher.

For most of its time with the Baumish Navy, RBS Santiara was seen as a status icon for the navy and was considered "the pride of the Baumish Navy" despite its growing obsolesce. However, it did briefly see service in the Baumish-Kilomirean War of 1979 and helped assist in providing fire support in at least 2 different assaults. However, it was quickly withdrawn from frontline service as it stood no match for the more technologically advanced ships, even though the cruiser had far more firepower. Eventually, the Baumish Navy retired the ship in 1980 as it was deemed too impractical.

In 1981, Baumes opened a tender for the sale of the ship. An interested Verskan Navy decided to purchase the cruiser and a deal was reached the same year, with Baumes agreeing to sell the cruiser at a fairly low price. After extensive electronics and weapon systems retrofitting, was officially commissioned into service as the VNS Uçan Yaprak in 1983. For most of its career in Verska, it was used as a fleet flagship. In 2003, it was retired from active service and converted into a training vessel. However, it would be short-lived as the vessel was retired just two years afterward.

Eventually, the ship was sold to a company and had its weaponry and armament removed. It was then converted into a floating hotel anchored in a bay in the Verskan capital of Gelişmiş Başkent. In 2008, it was briefly used as an ad-hoc rescue vessel when it was underway to a repair dock. Later on, it was rented out by a non-profit organization based in Verska named [ADD CHARITY NAME] for humanitarian aid operations, which it has continued to do so since 2015. Most notably, it helped to transport supplies to [ADD PLACE] in [ADD YEAR] following a devastating earthquake.

Hello Solaryia! Long time no see. Palan's main issues are currently the following (this is totally not a part of Manuel C. Pasuell's campaign):
▸ The issue of unemployment and homelessness is a massive problem within Palan. Palan has funds and jobs to sustain it's own nation, but with the corruption, it made the task harder for the Government to fix this issue. This also connects to the issue with literacy, with programs usually not being enough to fix the low literacy of most of its citizens. The Department of National Statistics [DENS], a part of the National Department of Education [NDED], has put a ballpark figure: at least 15% to 20% of Palan's population are dealing with homelessness. Palan can try to fix this issue by voting a new, dependable leader (which is, coincidentally, will be going this year) and fix the issue by removing the issue of corruption.
▸ As heard from the other issue, the rampant corruption havocs almost all parts of the government. With how much an issue corruption is, people really ask in Palan, how could they fix this issue? Atleast 4 government leaders of Palan have been caught and impeached. Palan is a peaceful country, and during the 4 presidents being caught, they were also brought down thanks to the citizens taking them down with peaceful protests. Again, they could vote a dependable leader, by the name of Manuel C. Pasuell, a part of the Palan Nacionalita. He aims to fix these issues by making sure that there is a REAL leader within the Govt.
▸ Religions on Palan vary. (considering how I have yet to post where my location on the map is, I have not picked which religions will not be able to coexist. So consider this part finished but also unfinished. Unfortunately no Manuel campaign here, now shoo.)

Only thing I would have done differently is make a heavy cruiser with 8 inch (203mm) instead of a light cruiser with 6 inch guns.

Either way Verska you might want to check out the Italian cruiser Guiesspi Garibaldi and the changing of it from a conventional WW2 cruiser to Europe’s first missile cruiser.

I might want to check that out myself because that sounds hella intriguing.

Aldisland wrote:I might want to check that out myself because that sounds hella intriguing.

It was quite a design for the time. One of the few surface ships designed to carry ballistic missiles.

The Tsunterlands might have more flaws than strengths to be honest but here it goes

The Tsunterlands has limited fertile land and no natural energy resources of its own - its actually quite a resource-poor country. It cannot feed its population by itself nor power its country without relying on imports. This makes the Tsunterlands extremely vulnerable to shocks to international trade - IE see what happened during the Iershenovan War when riots broke out due to blackouts.

The Tsunterlands is a highly developed nation with a great quality of life... mostly. This is indeed true for the affluent and heavily populated western coastal regions (the Long Hook and Little Hook Peninsulars) however the Interior is much worse off, being far less developed and having far worse quality of life outcomes. That brings us onto the next flaw.

The Tsunter population are divided into 36 (soon to be 70 clans) many of whom operate successfully and welfare enterprises and as part of their cultural traditions share that wealth with their members - this includes providing their kinsmen with many of the welfare services (inc paying or subsidising healthcare, education and in some instances housing that in other country's would be provided by the government or by the market. This is great - provided you belong to one of clans capable of affording such things. Less wealthy clans often have to make-do with lower-quality services whilst none-Tsunters living in the Tsunterlands have to depend on underfunded government services or the market instead. As the majority of Tsunters benefit from this system there is little desire to see it changed. This is why the presence of Non ethnic-Tsunters in the Tsunterlands is seen as a threat to the great standard of living many Tsunters enjoy - more non-Tsunters voting means greater desire for political change which means Tsunters paying taxes to fund welfare services they don't use.

I am logging significant events in my nation (policies enacted/cancelled, WA-related activity, or reclassifications) in a “History of Teclana” factbook. Each IRL day corresponds to 1 year. I will also include leader changes after unlocking the Leader feature, justified by leaders no longer leading the country for whatever reason (I will change my leader every 2 months or every week depending on whether or not I have term limits and state what happened to the old leader.

I could be wrong, but I think in TWI, the IC date matches the date irl, so I believe in TWI, it's currently 2024 and 1 day = ~ 1 day.

Pretty much this, yes.

We do also allow back-dating posts to some degree but don’t make it a habit if you do, unless you want to run a historical RP.

(Edit: If you are to take the standard of TWI being in the Pacific, then TWI crosses the International Date Line somewhere around Argus, but in general is at least 12 hours ahead or behind UTC today depending if you’re west or east of Argus)

Aye that sounds better, I'll do that. Thanks for the advice Wellsia.
