Help out an ignorant American, what does year 4 mean?
So at my university my degree is a five year degree so I guess technically this would be my second semester of my junior year but I do multiple semester long coops so it's still a four year program in the end
Genuine big brain moment.
Everybody. Forget about the Trigel civil war. For the Olympics I will open registrations in April when it is all ready.
"Your honour, in my client's defence they don't like Mondays."
Oh, so you are looking out? Okay, thanks. At the same time, we don't know how it will go, because at least people are initiating RPs and that's important.
It's okay the killer was the white guy in the white place at the white time so he'll get off pretty light. I'm sure we'll learn that he was a good kid who mostly kept to himself in school and nobody expected him to do something this tragic. And then people will talk about mental health for 2 days and do f*ckall about it and then the cycle continues again and again as assuredly as the sands of time flow evermore in the cosmic hourglass of eternity.
He should be tossed into a padded featureless room in pure isolation and starved to death

Thanks and congratulations
anyone like the progress on the thread? I take any feedback.
I don't understand why people need to make excuses for evil people. Nobody's mental health leads them to kill 8. The person was evil and racist and the fact that people want to use him to further any narrative is saddening. That sheriff in a good world would be fired for his comment. I hope that the victim's families will find peace
Segentova and Westmoor isles
Mild correction, turns out it was a spokesperson for the sheriff's office I think, who has since been removed from the case. Still a dumb thing to say, and he's still getting his ass covered by the actual sheriff so the point still stands.
I'm not saying anyone is using this particular racist incel scum to further a motive, it's just an observation that after every significant mass shooting event there's always a bunch of people clamoring for change and it always disappears by the weekend
Btw, how'd everything go after that major storm? I don't think I ever asked about the resolution of all of that[/quote]
Still living in the RV, never have I had so much trouble spending money. Have two contractors looking at it now, got one bid of $35,000; waiting on the second bid. At least I have a roof on it.
Other than the NS Olympics, this is the only recent one I can find: viewtopic.php?f=7&t=498801
It's pretty big: over 200 events. The RL Olympics/NS Olympics are over 300 events. I wouldn't recommend anybody try anything like that; on NS, they're run by pairs of people over a month or more. I'd recommend somebody trying to run a TWI multisport event keep it much smaller.
Also, the one I linked to uses the normal NS Sports scorinators (scripts) to score the events. They have the advantages of being fair and realistic, but I'm led to believe they're not the easiest to use.
And finally, most multisport events are dominated by individual sports, with relatively few team sports. There's no reason they must be that way, but it seems like a good rule of thumb.

Goly that's alot of money
I think people are getting too used to it as sad as saying that is
Looks a bit like a mess
Ok I got some things I need to work on for my nation I’ll be able to do it this weekend.

Apparently clicking on a National Geographic article now requires you to enter your email (and thus sign up for email spam) in order to continue reading. WTF?

Very smart to get a 2nd bid, maybe a 3rd if you can even. My grandmother got a dubious initial quote for pool work, and after a search for the mentioned parts on Amazon, didn't think their price was legit. They didn't really itemize either. The 2nd bidder has itemized, and seems much more in line for parts AND upkeep costs.

This will be my third contractor since the storm six months ago. Fired the first one, he would never show up, the second one did my roof and then disappeared as well, hadn’t seen him since Christmas. Want to make sure this one is going to do the job. I love my wife but going from a 3000 sq ft house to a 500 sq ft RV means tight living spaces.

Don't take anything you read here as gospel; this IS a WIP document after all and things may change. Of course, all and any changes will be submitted to the relevant senior members of the region and I will gladly take all and any suggestions. For now, I recommend holding back on questions, as they may be answered as this document is update. 3 All and any questions are now welcome.
Of course, at any time Noronica is - whilst the transition is ongoing - very welcome to swoop in and take back what is rightfully his. Whilst I have reached out to him on several occasions and have not had a response, I do really and truly recognise that life comes first and that if and when Noronica makes a return, I completely respect any wish of his to take his rightful places as Daddy Empire.
> Write an overview of changes
> Politics
Politically, Altera is currently a parlimentary democracy is practically name only, as the Curia basically control the nation. They make the laws and have the final say - the parliament is essentially there to keep the Curia in check.
In the planned changes, I won't cause any great upheavel to the system; with the exception that the Parliament will take a on a great role in the nation. Whilst the Curia will still hold the power, the Parliament will take on a greater presence within the lore of the nation. So you can still go ahead and continue to think and treat Altera as a democratic techno-corporatocracy; just now the democratic bit will play a more obvious and eye-catching role.
- Dispatch changes: Politics; addition of a section to political dispatch, as well as a dedicated section focusing on the parliament.
> Population/Size
Population and economics will have a negociated, but only marginal, boost - to reflect the size and nature of a nation that was formally a great empire. Nothing game breaking or OP, I assue you, but a marginal tweak. This of course will be discussed with the SORP.
- Dispatch changes; update population sizes (e.g. overview)
> Economy
As above, but will reflect the economics. In terms of industry, we'll still have the same old aerospace and other big giants of industry, but I'll create more companies to make a presence known in other sectors. Again, discussed with SORP.
- Dispatch changes; creation of big pharma companies, expanding Rowlands to take on shipbuilding, banking and finance, medical, cosmetics, clothing and of course - the elephant in the room - my !Amazon companies (Conta and Forest)
2 > Language
Call me stubborn, but I'm eager to establish English as Alteran. Boo ya.
> Relocation
This, above all, is the biggest change. Originally, I was planning on keeping my current spot; but that has pulled into question Dorm's history with Arván. Not moving would mess up their national more substantially than North Argus. So; I will move to the island North of Dorm. This however, in turn, pulls into question the territories in North Argus. I've discussed with Segentova, and agreed that he should apply to occupy most of the territory that was once Altera; save for a small region to the north east of former Altera; namely the peninsular and islands. I'll explain this territory in more detail; but having the physical presence on Argus helps keep, namely, the history of Altera's direct involvement in the Imperial War.
- Dispatch update; cartography (obvs) and overview
> Role in North Argus
As mentioned above, my plan is to request to keep a portion of North-East former Altera. The status of this territory will be explained later, but I intend to use this land to create a literal !Hong Kong (return to Gudao, anyone?). I'm yet to think of a suitable name, but I'll call it !Gudao for now (though will likely change it to something more Anglo-French to reflect its proximity to Segentova). 5 It's called Nova Concort/Concord It will be a trading and cultural melting pot. The status of this territory is planned to be one of two things:
- Part of Altera, but treated as an overseas territory (with its own flag, dispatch, etc)
- A bold territory, owned by myself, but treated as an overseas territory
As for the Canal territories, I'm aiming to discuss with Vancouvia, Segen and AM that the border of this territory be changed radically; making the canal itself the border between Segen and AM. This of course isn't as urgent to update as the rest of the planned changes, but continuing to justifying the CCA as a large nation, that really a isn't nation, is awkward to say the least. So the canal would revert to something akin to the Panama or Suez canal; a thing district owned by a foreign power, or a multi-national organisation/company
Dispatch update; CCA - minor tweaks to its territory claims
> Role in Gael
This one is simple, really. We resume Noronica's history and politics with Dormill; along with the tensions on Arván and globally. Whilst I think Altera would be continuing to try to soften tensions, the question of the island territory is always in question.
> Overseas Territories Arván - Whilst Noronica and Dorm settled the situation in Arvan by killing off Noronican nobility (it's a long story); Altera and Dorm won't have that luxury. Instead, it would be a case of Arván being Altera's Ireland; whilst there is some local support for Altera to remain in control, the reality is that the populace is overwhelmingly against Alteran rule. Altera - not wanting a war with DS or indeed a civil war on its doorstep, has been making inroads for Arván to gain independence / reunify with DS. Peacefully. Mostly. Thawcrest Islands - This is an additional territory claim, one that Noronica did not make. I am making this request in exchange for Black Isle. My intention is to make Thawcrest a series of islands like that of the Falklands in our world; a small population with a local industry, a local garrison - oh, and potentially a f*ck-ton of resources in its waters. The makings of a !Falklands war, perhaps?
Largely assuming control of anything that was Noronican. I haven't gotten round to a full list of territories; but I'll update this as I go along.
4
I will be making three claims for overseas territories:
Nova Concort (or commonly known as Concord); this is the foothold Altera will keep on the Argus mainland. The territory itself will a Hong Kong of sorts - as small financial and trading hub; and a melting pot of cultures. Its name is of French origin (to reflect the impact its neighbour Segentova would have). Equally, it'll be the staging point for Alteran forces in Argus during the Imperial War. Whilst largely considered Alteran territory, it's slowly been making its way to gaining more autonomy. Whilst it won't gain independence, it will - in time, gain its own local democratic representation both in Nova Concort and the Alteran homeland.
> Bold Territories
As above, tbh.
> Status of the Empire/Commonwealth
Largely unchanged, though I'm hoping to embolden the Commonwealth - with a slight rename and change of flag. The Commonwealth will be one of these organisations that has slipped into obscurity, but will be reinvigorated as its members go into the 21st century.
1 Aprosia would have gained independence as in canon in the mid 20th Century, after the conclusion of the Imperial War. This could result in the "Aprosian Emergency", where a spike in violence during the transition of power caused Altera to deploy military assets and hasten the establishment of local rule. However, this hastiness would have allow for the current socialism/communist elements to begin working to take power in Aprosia - much to the detest of the Alterans.
> International Relations
Pretty much the same, though there will be minor changes here and there. For example, as Altera won't be in the position to be invaded by AM; we won't be as openly hostile so long after the war. We may not be able to keep as strong ties to some of our allies as the changes to Altera are made; but I'll have to address them as they are brought to my attention.
That's it for now. Excuse the typos.
Thank you for those who have contacted me thus far about the planned changes. I've made some amendments after consulting New aapelistan and Dormill and Stiura; but just wanted to remind everyone of the plans I wanted to make. If anyone else wanted to add anything, or change their relation with Altera if the planned changes go ahead; do let me know.
As it stands, I'm planning on making a map this evening of the planned territorial changes.
