The State of Maas is a gargantuan, genial nation, ruled by the Directorate with a fair hand, and renowned for its rum-swilling pirates, complete lack of prisons, and anti-smoking policies. The compassionate, democratic population of 19.803 billion Maase are free to do what they want with their own bodies, and vote for whomever they like in elections; if they go into business, however, they are regulated to within an inch of their lives.

The relatively small, outspoken government prioritizes Education, although Healthcare, Environment, and Administration are also considered important, while Spirituality and Welfare are ignored. It meets to discuss matters of state in the capital city of Maasen. The average income tax rate is 23.7%, but much higher for the wealthy.

The very strong Maase economy, worth a remarkable 2,758 trillion Polar Crowns a year, is quite specialized and led by the Book Publishing industry, with major contributions from Tourism, Information Technology, and Cheese Exports. State-owned companies are common. Average income is an impressive 139,298 Polar Crowns, and distributed extremely evenly, with practically no difference between the richest and poorest citizens.

The government is hoping that medical aid will speak louder than human rights abuses, attempts to inform people about their unclaimed property are often mistaken for telephone scams, crowds of flag-burning protesters tend to accidentally become crowds of burning protesters, and an increasing percentage of the population's youth have homosexual parents. Crime is totally unknown. Maas's national animal is the cat, which frolics freely in the nation's many lush forests, and its national religion is none.

Maas is ranked 117,298th in the world and 24th in Arctic for Lowest Crime Rates, with 63.98 law-abiding acts per hour.
