Dear Canadian Friends,

The date passed by unnoticed, but I was looking our Forest's list of embassies, and I realized that six days ago, our mutual embassy turned five years old!

Please feel free to take a walk into the Forest (which is beautiful during December!) and say hello! We're always happy for visitors from friends!

Happy Embassy Quinquennium! (And from a RL American, sorry for being such obnoxious neighbors during the past four years!)

Wow! An incredible Grand Prix today.

George Russell did incredibly well, and should have won, but an error by the Mercedes team followed by a puncture meant he ended up in 9th right behind his teammate Bottas.

Your race winner - after 190 attempts - Sergio Perez. He came all the way through the field after colliding with LeClerc on the opening lap and taking him out. Great news for Racing point who also had Canadian Lance Stroll on the podium in 3rd. Ocon and Ricciardo took 2nd and 5th for Renault, with Sainz and Norris in 4th and 10th for McLaren.

Verstappen went out on the first lap trying to avoid the Perez/LeClerc collision. His teammate Albon was not particularly impressive, but managed to claim 6th for Red Bull.

Racing point now move up to 3rd in the constructors' championship, 10 points clear of McLaren and a further 12 ahead of Renault. A dismal day for for Ferrari sees them drop off the chase, and they will almost certainly finish in 6th.

A round of applause please for Devil Heart's rendition of a Tasmanian devil riding a mammoth, as seen on my new flag. Onward to glory.

I couldn’t be happier for Sergio Perez! The man that has been shown utter disregard and disrespect in not having a seat for next year has been nothing but the consummate professional, point producer and now a Grand Prix winner.

Redbull are crazy not to put Perez in place of Albon next season.

Bad luck for Russell. He may even have his first points taken away from on top of everything because he may be disqualified for having a mixed set of tires on in that clusterfrack of a pitstop. When it rains it pours for poor ol’ George.

Happy for Stroll to finish on the podium as well. Glad to see the Maple Leaf represented in F1.

A thank you for the NS card you donated!
I'm so glad you liked the the funny little sketch enough for it to become Cryptozoology's flag. Would you mind if I give the image a sort of middle ground between drawing and graphic art style, a bit like the Devil Heart flag? I think it would stand out better as a flag if I did this, while maintaining the hand drawn element.

Yes of course I'd like this. :) They look ready to go on adventures together.

Hey that's a nice flag. I like it too :)

What would you like for Xmas/Hanukkah/Yule/Midwinter?
Something else (please post)

Affordable COVID-19 Vaccine for everyone worldwide to get vaccinated so everything can return to normal. :o

The Oxford vaccine is so far the clear leader on price.

The main problem appears to be producing the stuff. We need 15 billion doses, and so far the most optimistic figure I have seen is 300M doses per year. Even if 10 vaccines can be approved and manufactured at that rate it would take 5 years to immunize everybody.

Qualifying is complete for the last GP of the season, and for once it's not a Mercedes on pole. Verstappen put in an excellent lap right at the end to snatch it, with Bottas also doing well in 2nd. Then comes Hamilton, followed by Norris, Albon and Sainz.

The McLarens starting 4th and 6th gives them a chance to snatch 3rd in the constructors' championship from Racing point. Perez will start from the back due to a technical penalty. Can he fight his was up in to the points again?

Sharpanistan

To answer that last question first - no. He was out after a dozen laps with mechanical troubles. That made things easier for McLaren, and both drivers had solid drives to clinch the necessary points for third in the constructors' championship.

Not a very exciting race to finish an otherwise surprisingly interesting season. The top three stayed in their starting order all the way through. An early safety car negated most of the strategy options, and those who did try something different did not fare well.

One more year for the current regulations, then big changes are due in 2022. I'm hoping we'll get some good racing.

Sharpanistan

Poor Perez. From the highest of highs to the lowest of lows, from literally one race to the next.

However, he should be very proud of his work this year. 4th in the Driver’s points standing. Won his first F1 Grand Prix.

If Redbull choose Albon over Perez, then that team’s leadership has a screw loose.

On a side note, I’m so glad that I’m alive to see history in the making with Hamilton career thus far. The team will have to be on point next year to break the championship record, especially with Redbull knocking at the door. Give Max a car that can compete and he can beat Hamilton. Can’t wait for the next season!

Good thing it’s only 96 days away :)

I think most of the teams are likely to make significant progress, so Mercedes will be under a lot of pressure. I expect more competition at the top and a smaller gap to a tight midfield. It could be a very competitive season.

Hello! Ambassador from 10000 Islands, so I’ll be bringing with me unlimited supply of maple syrup!

(I’ve actually always wanted to visit Canada. Though the southern parts only.)

Bienvenue, welcome to Canada.

Don’t know. Saw a request thread, so I went for it. Hakke’s profile still says Emissary to Canada, though

Looks like Perez is going to replace Albon at Redbull Racing next year!

It makes sense. AFAIK it's not official yet, but it seems likely Perez will get a 1 year deal and Albon will stay on as their reserve driver. The sponsorship Perez brings may allow Red Bull to take over the Honda engine, without which they would be in a very awkward place in 2022.

Hello Canadian friends!

Forest's sixth annual Photo Contest is beginning, and as has been the case in past years, submissions are open to anyone from our embassy regions. We'd love to see some submissions from y'all! :)

Forest Photo Contest 2020

2020 has undoubtedly been a year like no other. The general consensus is that it’s been crazy if not outright terrible. But with the holidays and the new year just around the corner, 2020 is finally coming to an end. Before we move on to a hopefully smoother 2021, though, there’s one last thing that needs to be done: the sixth annual Forest Photo Contest!

Here's what you need to know:

🌲 We have four categories once again this year:

  • LinkTrees (this category is permanent each year)

  • LinkLight & Dark (photos that display astounding lights and/or shades)

  • LinkSeasons (photos that represent one of the seasons or a certain time of year)

  • Link2020 (any photo that resonates with or represents this crazy year)

🌲 You may submit up to 12 photos total. You may choose how to divide those among the different categories, but please do not submit more than 12.

🌲 Please post your photos in the appropriate thread on our forums, located Linkhere. You may also submit photos via a link to an image hosting site in a telegram to Mount Seymour.

🌲 The photos must be taken by you, but can be taken at any time (not just during the contest).

🌲 Anyone in Forest or in a region which has an embassy with Forest may submit photographs for the Contest.

🌲 Timing:

  • Submissions will be open from December 18 at 00:00 GMT (7:00pm Dec 18 EST) to January 23rd at 23:59 GMT.

  • Voting will begin on January 23rd at 23:59 GMT and end January 30th at 23:59 GMT.

🌲 Voting will take place on a Google Form. Needless to say, please no puppeteering!

🌲 The photographers with the top three photographs in each category will have their photos acknowledged on our RMB, on our World Factbook Entry, and potentially in our next foreign update. A banner will also be created with a collage of the top photos to applaud the winners, and participants in the competition will be encouraged to add it as their nation's custom banner. Forest's flag will also be changed to the 1st place photos in each category for a week after the Contest.

Now it's time to head out and start photographing! Good luck to everyone!

Any questions about the Contest should be directed to Mount Seymour.
