One day after Hezbollah and Israel agreed to a ceasefire in South Lebanon, a major offensive began in Northwestern Syria. Rebel forces lead by the Syrian Salvation Government(HTS) are capturing towns and villages and are heading towards Aleppo. Syria has been in a state of civil war for many years, however most of the rebel factions have agreed to a ceasefire with the Syrian government. All except for HTS. HTS states that this offensive is motivated by retaliation against the SAA and Russia’s shelling of Idlib and its civilians. However, the fact that this offensive started right after the ceasefire in South Lebanon is no coincidence. The ceasefire has provided Rebel factions in Syria a strategic window to act against the Syrian government which has putting its focus on Lebanon rather than the Northwest. It has proved to be successful as the rebels have already captured 28 towns and villages. Both Hezbollah and the Syrian government have been weakened from the fighting in South Lebanon and the Golan Heights, and it’s very well possible that Aleppo can fall under rebel hands. Whatever happens next, let us pray that Allah grants victory to the righteous and paradise for the innocent civilians who have died.
