Why are the major regions so corrupt? Is it some kind of precedence in real world governance?

Whenever a place is large, there will always be bad people in some forms of power.

Nevertopia wrote:Why are the major regions so corrupt? Is it some kind of precedence in real world governance?

You mean in terms of NS Stats? That would probably be because there are more nations in these regions, so the total corruption is higher than it otherwise would be. We also have some of the oldest nations in the game, meaning that they might have way higher rates of corruption from issues than lesser regions would have.

Truth is my friend no one “plays” NS for stats or really cares about what their country is. The play NS for RP. It’s not like your gonna win if you have max stats or your gonna loose if your country has minimum stats.

Then you can care about stats, it’s not like you can’t or have to use stats. It’s that most people ignore them.

Too much highly unrealistic with the stats changing every 4 hours.

trust me, rping with ns stats almost always ends in confusion and ultimate failure. just go with artificial worldbuilding.

i play Nationstates not for RP but to see how well my personal beliefs translates to policies and what are better ways to shape them. So most of you guys like to play president on the forums for your ingame nation? is that what nationstates is for? To fulfill your unrequited lifelong ambition as a world leader that you know deep down will never pan out? Or how you wish to relive the best years of your life in your highschools debate club pwning the insert-political-affiliation-here? That your parents wonder when you're ever going to move out of their basement and do something worthwhile with your life while mother cries why she brought you into this world while father drinks himself to a drunken stupor every night? Does God stay in heaven because even he has turned his back on us? Why are we here only to suffer? Every night, I can feel my leg… and my arm… even my fingers. The body I’ve lost… the comrades I’ve lost… won’t stop hurting… It’s like they’re all still there. You feel it, too, don’t you?

Krionik wrote:
Today had been quite the day for Toma Vasic, trumpet extraordinaire. He, as well as the rest of the NAC Honor Band, had practiced for this event for what felt like months, but was in reality merely weeks. Before this, he'd never had the honor of performing alongside Belskan Spear-Dancers, which had turned out to be just as much of a chore as it was an honor. Nor had he ever really interacted with his countrymen from Formosa, and he'd had a hard time forcing the image of the beautiful dancers from his mind and focusing on his music as he'd played for them. He was, after all, young, foolish, and unmarried. But out of everything, the biggest surprise and ordeal had come after all the performances were completed, and the band had moved to the dining area. When the Director announced that one of the band-members would be addressing the audience, he didn't worry at all. When it was announced that the representative would be chosen by chance, he began to feel fear. When Toma drew the short straw... Well... He was not very pleased. But he'd done his duty nonetheless.

And now, he found himself in yet another awkward situation. Trapped between two people who seemed to simultaneously be acting as genial towards him as possible, while also having an unseen, unspoken battle between each other. Nonetheless, he did his duty to his hosts as he maintained a perfect air of congeniality towards both of them. "Well," Toma said as he looked at Mrs. Tchenya, "Personally I find myself preferential towards swing music. It's entertaining and lively, regardless of whether you're sitting down or dancing along to it. However, I do also indulge in classical music from time to time. Tell me, have you ever heard a traditional Koroletzi symphony? Out of all the states in the Confederation they have the richest musical history, and some of their more classic works are simply amazing." He'd return to Mr. Danto's questions in due time, as was polite. But at least when Mrs. Tchenya had interrupted, she'd done so using a topic he quite enjoyed.

By the time he was done with this, he felt he was going to have an autobiography-worth of stories to tell. He couldn't be happier. He also doubted he could be more uncomfortable, but that would fade in time, surely.

OOC: Okay. So, this took... Quite a bit longer than expected to come out. Long enough that I have gone through the process of beginning to entirely redo my lore in the time between posts. However, that probably shouldn't affect the RP too severely. It's kind of crazy. At the time of the last post in this RP, there was no CV-19. The US wasn't currently burning itself to the ground. It had still been almost a decade since the last manned American space launch. I don't exactly feel like this post is worth the wait, but at this point I felt like it's now or never.

Regardless, I'm back, and hopefully will be able to breathe some life back into this RP! :D

(Just a side note by the way, I'm not exactly knowledgable in music, so I don't really have the capacity to understand some of the references you're making, so I'm kind of just filling in the gaps.)

OOC: Well, I've also taken a long time in responding for this RP. We started this together back in January and it was fun then. Just because we have had Covid and riots and general craziness to attend to doesn't make this any less fun now… I just hope that you decide it’s worth continuing!

As if in response to the trumpeter’s comments, a light, lively piano melody began in the background. The change to swing music went mostly unnoticed by the clamorous crowds—to them, the musical portion of the evening’s entertainment was long over—but Katrina Tchenya perceived it and its implications immediately. She did not like what she heard. But she did not skip a beat, “I have not had the pleasure. It is unfortunate that the Koroletzi symphonies could not perform tonight…” she crooned sweetly. The second half of the thought, of course, did not leave her lips; her emotions were well restrained by years of diplomatic training. In truth, it sickened her. “so we could be treated to a more cultural colonization.” Millennia ago, it would be unimaginable to have Evrigenis import the products of another culture. The relationship was once the reverse: Evrigenese food, music, and tradition had once been exported across Valsora. Although the ancient soft power had only translated into a small outpost in Antarctia, the modern Evrigenese identity remained empowered by the memory of the country’s cultural hegemony. That the physical world had changed much since those times was acknowledged, yes, but it was unimportant. The country’s roots lay in universal, timeless ideals. Like music, justice and hospitality and honor evoked the same meaning for any member of every culture. Or so Katrina had thought. She and Danto had been at odds about the ideals since they were both brought under the same government to head different Ministries. His power games would distract from the main objective of tonight. These considerations forced Katrina to choose her next words carefully. “but that does not mean we will not be happy to hear them later as our countries harmonize our relations.” She pauses to chew. Katrina knew she was not the only one at the table with strong opinions.

Oblivious to the trumpeter’s discomfort and all too aware of his own, Nicolas Danto did not dare add another word to the conversation. It would just be fuel for the fire. He detested Tchenya’s smug smile and thought better of it. If his silence needed to be excused, anyone within eyeshot of Nicolas could see a full mouth barely concealing a heaping forkful of Burek. He was naturally large in stature, but that fact did not completely account for his eating habits. Only the stress of this strange encounter would explain it. Normally, he would savor the foreign cuisine and enjoy it slowly, but being so near Tchenya only inflamed the situation—and his appetite. He wished he could just escape. What damage could she do if she was left alone with Vasic? The question niggled at him, but the tension had become unbearable. After an exchange of platitudes and simple excuses, he fled the heat of the Great Hall for the chilly outdoors. Release. Nicolas had not been expecting to find company—who else would be crazy enough to be out at this time in this weather?—so he rubbed his eyes when he saw a young man approaching. Even more incredible was that this other man appeared to be the trumpeter’s twin. Same height, same build, same eye- and hair-colour, even. And when Nicolas heard the other man’s voice...

"Toe-Ma Vay-Sick..." Thomas Vulcaph pronounced the trumpeter's name slowly, letting the syllables crumble in the dry winter air. Thomas had been rehearsing for an interview per the Minister of Culture’s instructions while he made his way to the Great Hall. The operation was intended to be covert, but even the best laid plans oft go awry. Thomas found an attentive audience in the Minister of Trade. And the Minister of Trade found an attentive audience in him.

Since so many conflicting stories are told about this moment, little is known about what exactly happened during their meeting. All we know for certain is that neither man was aware of the import of their encounter. It seemed underwhelming. Without the benefit of hindsight, going forward with the planned interview with the trumpeter or even a randomly-selected concert attendee would seem to be more impactful. But the Kallipolis Weekly reporter received another set of secretive ideas and instructions from Danto. Whose plan he intended to execute is also murky. What did happen in the public account is as follows.

The Minister of Trade was the first concert-goer to depart the Green Ring. Thomas was soon after seen hastily wolfing down a small serving of Sarma. When the meal was over, the time for action had arrived. Thomas Vulcaph, subconsciously or not, assumed Nicolas Danto’s posture and gait as he strode towards Katrina and Toma’s table. The two appeared to be engrossed in musical discussion before Thomas interjected. The poor musician would be subjected to at least one more question, whether it made him uncomfortable or not. The question, to Katrina’s surprise, was not an exchange of pleasantries before the critical “Would you allow Kallipolis Weekly an interview”; instead, it was four simple words. “Do I know you?”

Yep. There was a period of time here when RMB RP cared about NS Stats, but that was only for a few months or so before they went back to not caring about them.
