| AUGUSTIN ALLIANCE | GOVERNMENT | HISTORY | INFORMATION CENTER | MAP | ROLEPLAY | STATISTICS | WA REGISTRY |

1. What is this place?
This is a region, one of thousands in NationStates. You can think of regions as continents in real life. They are basically containers for nations, and nations can only be in one region at a time, though each nation can move as often as it pleases.

More specifically, we are the Polis of Dawn. We have a rich, if occasionally turbulent, history, and now you are a part of it! Like many regions, we have our own government, a Discord server where you can chat with other residents, various activities, and a few rules. Unlike other regions, we have an elaborate Athenian theme that is unique to us (and mostly involves praising Eos), and a tight network of relationships with other powerful regions. To learn more, keep reading!

2. What is there to do?
Plenty. You could run for public office, praise Eos, apply for a location on the map and engage in nation roleplay, sign up to report for our news service, praise Eos, chat on the RMB or Discord server, become an ambassador and represent Dawn abroad, praise Eos, work in the WA office to help us build international and domestic influence, join our recruiting program and grow the region, praise Eos, or try to defeat your region-mates in our regular contests. Even if you somehow manage to run out of activities, just post on the RMB! Someone is always looking for help, and you might discover something you love.

3. What are the rules here?
Dawn has never been a terribly strict region. We do expect our residents to follow the Nomos (code of law), which can be found here, and regularly praise Eos. The short version is that you should avoid spamming or harassing other residents, but of course you would never do such a thing. The rules are created by our Citizens' Assembly and enforced by our Executive officials. If you have a question about the laws, ask an official!

4. How does the government work?
Dawn has two rulers, each of which hold jurisdiction over a separate aspect of the region. The Archon Eponymos is the civil leader, and the Archon Basileus is the administrative and religious leader. These Archontes have equal authority, including the power to appoint Thesmothetes (junior Archons) to fill certain roles in the region. They choose their successors, make sure citizens adhere to the Nomos, and encourage the praise of Eos.

The Citizens' Assembly, or Voulí, creates the laws of the Nomos. Members of this house are elected every three months by their respective prefectures. There are six prefectures, each one covering roughly one sixth of the region's land area. When the Voulí meets, they write and debate over new laws, then vote to pass them into the Nomos.

5. Can I be the delegate?
As a matter of fact, you can! Just start asking people for endorsements. Coming up with a clever, persuasive campaign will help your cause, especially if it includes public praise of Eos. The delegate is the nation with the most endorsements each day, so go around and collect as many as you can! Even if you never become the delegate, you will at least gather a lot of regional influence.

Still wondering what this game has to offer? You are in luck! NS is a vast, complicated world, and you can play for years before you even break the surface. Here are a few resources to help you find something that interests you.

FAQ: The official game FAQ can be found here, and a more comprehensive version is maintained on the Technical subforum here.

Roleplay: On NS, roleplay (commonly known as RP) is text-based, and consists of players writing collaborative stories that bring their nations (or people within their nations) to life. It usually takes place on the NS forums, player-created offsite forums, or region RMBs.
RP Guide: viewtopic.php?f=4&t=170098
RP Questions: viewtopic.php?f=5&t=118474
Advice for New Players: viewtopic.php?f=5&t=33989

Gameplay: The term "gameplay" (commonly known as GP) encompasses a number of things. It includes the "issues game," where players answer issues to build their nations in a certain way and compete on World Census reports; the "invasion game" (commonly known as raiding and defense, or R/D); and regional politics.
NS Issues: viewtopic.php?f=13&t=88
R/D Guide: viewtopic.php?f=12&t=307728
Region Building: viewtopic.php?f=12&t=353470

Real-world debate: This is mostly self-explanatory, and takes place in the General subforum (commonly known as NSG), or on regions' offsite forums and RMBs.
First Stop for NSG: viewtopic.php?f=20&t=88796

World Assembly: The World Assembly (commonly known as the WA) is a mixture of RP and GP. It is the world's only international legislative body, similar to the real-world United Nations. Many players like to spend time writing their own WA resolutions or discussing proposals written by others. This takes place in the General Assembly and Security Council subforums. If this sounds interesting to you, it is highly recommended that you begin there, by asking questions and reading other players' work.

Security Council Guide: viewtopic.php?f=24&t=218040

Something is missing... So, you may ask, how does one declare war? What about setting up alliances, or trading? NS does not include functions for war or trade, but that should be no obstacle to you! If you have a large enough group, you may attack another region, which is called "raiding" (see "Gameplay" in the section above this). You can also begin an RP war with another player (complete guide here). Trade is RPed on NS, so the best place to go is the GE&T subforum (Help Desk thread). Alliances are a little more complicated, because they can take so many forms. Again, there is no built-in function for alliances, although embassies can be established between regions, and are sometimes used to signify formal agreements. In general, alliances between nations are RPed. Alliances between regions, on the other hand, are most often political gameplay agreements.

Welcome Kokoku of japan! If you’re new to NationStates, check out this guide:

Stepwise Guide to NationStates for New Players
Step 1: Answering Issues
  • To answer issues, go to this page: page=dilemmas This corresponds to the “Issues” icon at the top of your screen.

  • As a new nation, you will always start out with 5 issues. These will appear as newspaper headlines. Click on these to go to the issue.

  • Once on the page, to answer an issue, click the button below the option which you want to choose.

  • If you do not like any option, click “Dismiss” near the bottom.

  • Return to the original issues page to answer a new issue.

  • If you have no more issues, the issues countdown will inform you the amount of time until you receive a new one.

Step 2: Choosing a Region
  • Many regions will be recruiting you. Go to this page: page=telegrams to see all their recruitment telegrams.

  • To read a telegram, click on one.

  • If you like the region they describe, move to it by going to the bottom of the telegram and clicking the button that says “Move [Yournation] to [Region]”

  • If you don’t like that region, move to a new region by going back to your telegram page and finding a new telegram.

  • If you don’t like any of the regions listed, move to one you want to by going to this page:

    https://www.nationstates.net/region=[region]
Replacing “[region]” with the region you’d like to move to. Next, click the following button about a quarter of the way down the screen:
  • If you’d like to make your own region, go to this page: page=create_region . Please note that you should only do this once you are experienced (aka not right away), as to run a good region, you need a lot of skills that don’t always come naturally.

Step 3: Getting Involved in a Region
  • Once you have joined the region you like, there will typically be a welcome telegram they send you. You can tell because it will be addressed to “tag:welcome”

  • The first thing you will want to do is do whatever they ask you to in the welcome telegram. If you are confused, ask on the Regional Message Board, and be patience. It may take them several hours to respond.

  • Typically, they will ask you to join an offsite chat, such as discord. You should do this, as you will be able to chat with your regionmates more easily.

  • To find the Regional Message Board, go to this page:

    https://www.nationstates.net/page=display_region_rmb/region=[region]
Replacing “[region]” with the region you are in. Alternatively, you can find it by clicking on this icon while hovering over your region page:

Step 4: Joining the World Assembly
  • Many regions require or encourage you to join the World Assembly. First, be sure to supply NationStates your email address in page=settings , which can also be found here:

To join, go to this page, which can also be found on your sidebar: page=un
  • Click “Apply to Join”

  • Go to your email and click the link NationStates sends you.

  • NOTE: DO NOT JOIN THE WORLD ASSEMBLY WITH MORE THAN ONE NATION. EVER.

  • To vote on World Assembly resolutions, go to the page, and click on the resolutions at vote. Once on the page, scroll to below the colored bars, and you will see the option to vote for or against.

  • To endorse someone in the World Assembly, go to their nation page here:

    https://www.nationstates.net/nation=[nation]
Replacing “[nation]” with their nation name. Scroll to the bottom of their page, and click the button which says “Endorse [nation]”
  • You should endorse your regional delegate. To find them, go to the top of your region page, and click the nation listed as “World Assembly Delegate”.

You know, I've been trying to fix that problem for a few days now. That's 100% why I'm so intent on recruiting people. Based on past experience, I fully expect things will improve over time, but it might take a few days.
