Trouble in Vojac
On July 25th, 1967, a military convoy consisting of three trucks was transporting soldiers to train at the batts training ground in Hill 308. While driving to the training ground along the designated route, the first truck was hit by a rocket-propelled grenade warhead. The other two trucks immediately stopped after seeing the first truck get hit. Some soldiers got out of the second truck to check on the soldiers from the first truck. A hail of bullets rained upon them and the other three trucks, immediately killing some of the soldiers who were out in the open. Then, the soldiers from the first truck who could still move began to fire back at the assailants, while the rest of the soldiers in the second truck and the soldiers from the third truck began to dismount and start firing back at the assailants. They also tried to get the injured soldiers who were still out in the open back to the safety of the trucks. As the firefight continued, the 2nd truck was struck by a warhead, and the assailants retreated when reinforcements arrived. The firefight lasted 53 minutes, during which 11 soldiers were killed, 26 were injured, and 8 were critically wounded. At 6:30 pm, a group called the Red Hand claimed responsibility for the attack on the military convoy. They warned the Cresrian government to change its ways and adopt communism.

Our Comrades across the Border

After the defeat of Galayar at the hands of the NORPAC, Communism has taken a big hit across Coldonia. The only bastions of Sergeism are us and Divankhaban who have come within our ranks after their Revolution. Our comrades from Galayar, the former members of the Troikan Government are sitting as a government-in-exile, yet they lost their right to rule over the now NORPAC-aligned territory a while ago. Our nation is still stuck in isolation and barely has aerial access with its comrade nation, not being enough to establish a lasting connection. The NORPAC holds the hegemony and it will be a matter of time until they will strike at the Heart of the Revolution and extinguish the Workers' Dream. The Bourgeois' hold on the Coldonian affairs doesn't allow us to do much externally, plus, with the fall of Galayar and being portrayed as aggressors and expansionists by the Western media, has installed a Red Scare in their nations, making the expansion of Socialist ideas very hard to take root.

However, an opportunity has arisen in our other neighbor, Cresr. After their leader, James Gele announced publicly his intention that his nation wished to join the NORPAC, the Communist Insurgent Group known as the Red Hand attacked a military convoy in the neighboring province of Vojac. Their message was for Cresr to adopt ideas aligned with our nation and bring another Revolution into the fold, which we wholeheartedly supported publicly. What makes this a great opportunity is that unlike the Liberal Capitalists of the West who hold both diplomatic and domestic support of their people, Cresr is under a Reactionary Government who despite their wishes to join the NORPAC, the case is not reciprocated as the alliance holds no sympathy to the Cresr's governance due to their lack of democratic law and policies. Another ace up our sleeve is a defeat that can be turned into a victory. Although Communism lost in its previous war, it was devastating and long enough for the domestic population of the West to not be so keen on another war should one between us and Cresr arrive, plus, we wonder, with what devil will they make a deal: Socialism or Reactionism.

Therefore, Rossiean will send support to the Red Hand in their struggle in Vojac to control the province setting the stage for a wider military campaign into Cresr and bringing them under our fold. We will coordinate with the Insurgents to attack various border checkpoints to weaken the border and allow for Rossiean aid to come in more easily. The aid will consist mostly of light weaponry and some smaller heavy weapons since they're easier to pass through and conceal from the wider foreign intelligence networks and surveillance. Another asset that will assist the Red Hand in their mission will be CIC agents that will deal with intelligence gathering, and assassinations of important political, military, and administrative figures within the province, but not nationally to not bring to ourselves too much attention and heat from the International Community. The agents will also spread propaganda to the disgruntled workers and poorer strata of Vojac to raise the numbers of Red Hand fighters and sympathizers. Once the initial phase has been set up and the aid has arrived safely, our assets will coordinate with the insurgents several important political and military objectives to accomplish such as sabotage, takeover, and capturing important cities, military bases, and industrial centers of the province. The local terrain will also be used to the best of our ability to hinder or hold the advance of the counter-insurgency efforts of the Creserian military. If everything checks out and the Red Hand holds control over the province of Vojac, there will be an even bigger event coming up for Cresr, Operation Shatter the Cross (Операция «Уничтожить крест») to finish our job once and for all.

Oops
Thinking nothing of it, the government decided to let the police and soldiers stationed in Vojac to quell the insurgency on their own, but in months time, the Red hand successfully capturing police stations and military bases until in 3rd august the largest city Makeyn fell to the Red hand, the Red hand make Makeyn the command center of the Red hand in 11th august 1967, the last remaining Cresrian soldiers are pushed out of Vojac, how did the Red hand successfully taken over all of Vojac? It's because of inexperience soldiers, the goverment slow reaction when the situation got dire and desserting police and soldiers who join the Red hand bringing them weapons that they stole from their police station and military base. On 13th august 1967, the Red hand declared Vojac's independence and the socialist republic of Vojac was born

Вайсковыя Вучэнні "Меч"/Military Exercises "Sword"

After some military reforms, the Central Committee decided to initiate the beginning of military exercises "Меч" in August of this year. Colonel-General Nikolay Serpanov, chief of the General Staff of the People's Armed Forces of Divankhaban, said that Меч would include the firing of live ammunition, simulated airborne assaults, and amphibious assault landings. It took place near the cities of Doroshenko and Vorontsov, which are located in the oblasts that bear the same name on the Styldavian-Divankhaban border. It was also occurring in the city of Ivangorod, located on the Koederic-Divankhaban border. A naval component was also present comprising the West Sea Fleet and the East Sea Fleet. Total estimates of the troops involved vary: officials say 500,000; although it has been estimated more than a million from other sources. The exercises involved both land, air, and naval components. As mentioned before, the Exercises are the first of their kind to utilize strategies and tactics that involve combined arms with all branches being centralized in the major plan while also delegating roles to take on specific goals and tasks that align with the missions at hand.

Claimed as a practice of counter-terrorism and defensive operations centered on the suppression of a border raid by Styldavia and defending key cities against aerial attacks from Styldavia; it also simulated an amphibious landing in Morovina, Kalisiya, and Sicheslav. Most controversially, according to several analyses, it also simulated a surprise attack against Schweitser and Aetheodaland, striking their capitals. Some analysts described the exercises as "repelling a multi-national attack on Divankhaban" followed by an escalation into "limited missile strikes when conventional weapons failed". Others drew more cautiously worded conclusions, noting that the exercise involved newly-developed ballistic missiles, but not necessarily a simulation of a full-scale attack on another country. The Army has showcased new standard-issue weapons like the VA-60 Assault Rifle and other protective individual equipment being used by soldiers on the field, as well as new battle tanks like the BT-65, new aircraft like the SA-65 and SA-67 (new jetfighter and interceptor), and new warships like the Stali-Class Battleship and the Severnaya-Class Submarines. It's important to note that the Border Guard troops that are led by the Secret Service, Ministry of Interior's Crimson Guards, and other Spetsnaz units are deployed alongside the main branches during the exercises. The Central Committee has showcased the might and power of the newly issued weapons and equipment, with rumors that they plan to distribute them for "further testing" to nearby countries that are aligned with socialism and the thoughts of Pravdoism.

In other news, the Central Committee has reached out for peaceful talks to establish diplomacy with the Rossiean government. It has proposed to give support to the Socialist Republic of Vojac and the Red Hand in Cresr by sending a military attache to oversee training and provide support by issuing weapons and equipment. Pravdo himself has been in lengthy debates about the question of the displaced Divankhaban diaspora that is present in many neighboring countries. It is important to understand that many fled before the establishment of Divankhaban as a Socialist Federal Republic to escape from the constant violence, war, death, and destruction. While many have settled in countries that are friendly to them, many are still present in countries that are opposed to their support of Pravdoist Socialist thought. These nations include Galayar, Styldavia, and Koedric. While the first is friendly, they are still led by a fringe decadent government facing opposition from the masses who wish to see Galayar return to socialist thought. Styldavia has not commented on what to do with the hundreds of thousands of Divankhabans who wish to stay in the lands they have settled and lived in for centuries that are part of their territory, yet have the desire to be closer with the socialist government under Chairman Pravdo. Koedric has not commented on the matter yet.

Failed operation
The Cresrian high command thought it would be an easy victory, but they were sorely mistaken; Operation End would be commanded by the defense minister, Timor Kasun, the joint group of the Federal forces commando general Milos Katic and the commander of the interior troops: Koe Buric. The plan was for 3 convoys on the right, left, and center all blitz to the largest city: Makeyn. However, the invasion was not popular with the Politicians and Civilians who were not in favor in of a military solution to the Vojac crisis, House speaker: Yves van Rankin, Opposed the invasion by the Cresrian National Armed Forces, Deputy Defense Minister: Albert Masi, resigned due to his public opposition of the invasion, saying: that it will not be a walk in the park and it will cost a lot of lives, hundreds of Cresrian officers believe have been sacked or punished for their opposition of the war, and many civilians believed why would you send the military to shoot your people, but the warnings were ignored and on 20th August 1967, Cresrian forces will enter Vojac, the right group commanded by the deputy commander of Deonsk military district, major general: Matias Sulaiwa, consisted of 4 battalions, 60 armored personnel carriers, 56 AFV's and 11 tanks, the center group commanded by the Deputy Commander of the Cresrian Korps Mariner: Anwar Anger, move from Slofarnia to Bedil consisted of 9 battalions, 31 armoured personnel carrier, 80 AFV's and 17 tanks, the left group, commanded by the commander of the deputy commander of Finliet Military distric: Thair Torres, consisted of 7 battalions, 8 tanks and 112 AFVs, the invasion force consisted of 20.000 soldiers on the early morning of 20th August 1967, Cresrian air force carried out heavy bombardment that will soon be followed by a ground invasion, in 3 collums with Makeyn being the target, as the 3 collums enters there are only minor resistance and was pretty much smooth but that will soon change when they are on the outskirts of Makeyn, artilery and rocket fire were immediately fired upon the Cresrian forces, after 2 months of intense fighting Makeyn was captured and the Red Hand insurgents retreated back to the east, it is estimated that 3.000 civilians were killed, 1.700 Cresrian soldiers, 88 AFVs destroyed, 66 APCs and 13 tanks destroyed and unknown number of Red Hand insurgents killed, the Cresrian armed forces continued their advanced deep into Vojac in june 8th, the second important battle of the war happened, the battle of Valkan, Valkan is a town where the Red hand established a new command center after Makeyn's fall, the battle lasted 5 weeks before being captured by the Cresrian forces, and the Cresrians continued their advance, slowly cause the lost of retreated areas while ambushes can only slowed the advanced other more extreme measured were excecuted to stop the Cresrian advanced, then in 25th of august, the Red hand insurgents have taken the St Alice school teacher and students hostage, after multiple failed attempts of rescuing the hostages, the Cresrian goverment accepted Red hand demands and halted their advanced to the Vojac's hills guaranteeing their safe passage back to Vojac's territory, atleast 213 people were killed and 361 injured, this was the first terrorist action conducted by the communist insurgents, undoubtly harming the reputation of the Red hand revolution in the eyes of the world, on 2nd september, the Red hand shocked the Cresrian forces in Makeyn by arriving with 6.000 insurgents in a coordinated raid they attack the Cresrians position, 12.000 Cresrians are now trapped in Makeyn, the next day Cresrian armoured collums try to break into the lines of Makeyn are nothing more then a target practice for the Red hand, the Cresrian armed forces decided to fire and shelling both on the city and Red hand positions with rockets, artillery and hellicopters in return the Red hand begin to increase their terrorist attacks such as a Styldavia plane hijacked in 7th September, a hospital hostage crisis in the 11th of September and many bombings of residential areas, after a few weeks of this the Cresrian goverment agreed to a ceasefire under pressure from the public, on 23rd of september 1967, the Cork treaty was signed, according to the agreement, Cresrian forces will leave central and eastern Vojac and Makeyn will be demilitarized. Up to 18.500 Cresrian soldiers were killed, 34.380 Red hand insurgents killed, and around 60.000 Civilians died in Vojac and other parts of Cresr

Expansion of Socialism

It seems that our plan to help the Red Hand rise worked up just fine on our part. Not only this, but it also saw great success from the Creserian incompetency in handling the unrest in Vojac. Our agents have made many contacts with many sympathizers of our Socialist cause within our province, increasing the number of the Red Hand from a few thousand to tens of thousands of workers to take over their factories and many deserted policemen and soldiers who subscribed to our ideology, thanks to our propaganda efforts spread through capturing antenna posts. But a bunch of bodies, unarmed are only good for shooting practices and body bags. So therefore, we armed them with light weaponry and smaller disassembled heavier weaponry, assembled back by our contacts once they crossed the already controlled border between us and Vojac. Surprisingly for us, the Red Hand decided to gather a cache of guns for themselves from capturing armories and military bases, and also from deserters who grabbed what they could with them. By then, we had the bodies and the guns, but those were nothing without knowledge. Our agents had another important role that they accomplished, and that was intelligence gathering from the Creserian loyalists in Vojac and sharing them with the Red Hand and the other allied members. Through a combination of befriending and blackmailing, the Red Hand managed to expand and consolidate the control over the province in a few months, and finally finish the objective. Despite the Creserian own Intelligence warned the Central Government to take a harsher and more interventionist approach in the Vojac Insurgency, it dismissed the issue and left it to the local authorities to deal with, which were overwhelmed and inadequately prepared and equipped to deal with an insurgency aided by a foreign power. When things turned dire and the Government decided to take more action, it was too late. After the last Creserian pockets of control ceased to exist and the loyalist soldiers and policemen left the province, the Red Hand proclaimed the creation of an Independent Socialist Republic of Vojac.

Our plan has worked impeccably, even better than we expected. Not only did the insurgency succeed in taking over the province, but were also bold and prepared enough to proclaim Independence right within Cresr, provoking the rest of their nation to go to war. Although we would gladly recognize their independence and help them directly, we can't do it, as such a bold approach would send a siren alarm to the NORPAC countries and speed up the Creserian ascendance into their ranks, no official response was given by Cresr regarding their stance and status on the issue of the insurgency, no official reprisal was sent to our Government too, meaning they either have other plans, or their Intelligence Network is so incompetent that they haven't discovered our agents as of yet. We will take advantage of our operational secrecy and continue our efforts, this time more expanded and finally taking the fight onto the turf of James Gele.

The CIC contacts within Vojac will move into the rest of Cresr to gather intelligence and stir up agitators and activists which in turn will inspire the population, especially within the classes of Workers and Farmers to take up arms and protest, sabotage, riot, declare strikes, or even rise violently against the Reactionary Regime and bring forth the Revolution. To consolidate our gains we will instruct the Red Hand to create a governing body in each settlement, village, or city they will gain control over in the form of Councils that will oversee Political, Administrative, and Social governance over the people. Those Councils will not only serve to better cement the movement but also provide legitimacy as a genuine ideological movement instead of an ad-hoc violent insurgency. The Red Hand will also be advised to avoid widespread destruction and killings of civilians to not hurt the support. Propaganda will be talked through radio and TV posts, and newspapers, and the word of our theorists will be shared from person to person within secretive places of shadow societies to avoid detection and discovery by the Creserian Counter-Intelligence Agency. The main ways of attack in our efforts to convince the population to convert to Socialism are the Conservative and Reactionary nature of the Creserian Regime, corruption and power abuse of the Government's efforts to consolidate power under their President James Gele and the Blue Iron Cross Party, which will descend into Authoritarianism or even worse, the possibility of suppression of Workers' Rights and abolishment of Trade Unions and Syndicates which will weaken the Proletariat power and increase that of Capitalists, Bourgeois and Aristocrats.

Militarily, we plan that the Red Hand personnel will continue to receive training from both Rossiean and Divankhabanese military advisors sent as attache across the controlled border between Rossiean and Vojac. Although our Pravian Comrades decided to make this action publicly as a show of force, our Government decided to continue its secrecy. Covert shipment of materials of war, light weaponry, and smaller heavier weapons (disassembled and reassembled once they reached their destination). The Divankhabanese also informed us that they wish to help the Socialist Republic of Vojac with medical services in the form of the Red Cross to "treat the injured civilians in the fighting", but these medics will also treat the insurgents. To facilitate the expansion of the Red Hand's operations within the whole nation, with the aid of its fellow Socialist Nations, the Red Hand Insurgent Group will wash away its irregular army structure and become a professional force named the People's Army (or whatever name Cresr comes up with). A quick and widespread conscription could be viable but might antagonize the population, so the Rossiean and Divankhabanese came up with a plan to cover this issue, disguised personnel. Unidentified military personnel from the Rossiean and Divankhabanese Armies will cross the border and will take up arms under the ranks of the Vojacian Army as volunteers eager to fight for the Revolution. The numbers will be reigned in and controlled periodically to not over-inflate the number of soldiers and attract suspicion, but rather to create organic growth.

In case all efforts of a domestic Socialist Takeover of Cresr fail, the Rossiean Military High Command together with the Government have come up with a Special Operation Plan to install a Socialist Government ourselves. The Operation code-named "Shatter the Cross", has two plans of battle: Military and Politics. On the Military Plan, the Rossiean Armed Forces under the Supreme Command of Marshall Volkov will launch an initial incursion, into the Creserian border, to overrun and destroy the enemy forces stationed there. Once an incursion is made, the Rossiean Army will continue to march at high speeds attempting to capitalize on the element of surprise and shock, while the firepower delivered by the Self-propelled Artillery and Howitzers, and SSM/MLRS will inflict casualties on Creserian reinforcements that attempt to consolidate the front line and take defensive positions. The Rossiean Air Force will have the task of providing Aerial Coverage for the Army and Aerial Superiority over the Creserian skies. To ease the accomplishment of these objectives and provide an initial advantage, long-range ballistic missiles together with aerial strikes on military bases (land and aerial) will be commenced simultaneously with the initial incursion of the Rossiean Army into the border. To maintain the element of surprise, disrupt communications, and delay a coordinated response by the Creserian Armed Forces, the Rossiean Air Force, and Long-Range ballistic missiles will also target any radar or radio system that comes in the way. Once the Air Force has accomplished its initial objectives, it will have other two objectives, Rear and Front. Within the rear front line, the Aviation will strike military installations, important infrastructure chokepoints (intersections, highways, bridges), and any incoming reinforcements to delay, or prevent said reinforcement. Front covers the bombardment and strike of enemy positions on the front line to disrupt entrenchment and counter-strikes against our forces. More detailed maps and offensive plans will come up once the CIC-Vojac and CIC-Cresr deliver their Intelligence Report regarding a fully detailed Creserian map (gib map of Cresr).

To the Government of the Socialist Federal Republic of Divankhaban:

"The Rossiean Government is open and eager to expand the cooperation between our fellow Socialist States. We also congratulate the Divankhabanese Armed Forces for their strength, professionalism, and bravery demonstrated in the Military Exercises "Sword". The Hegemony of the Capitalist Powers of NORPAC has been tolerated and left alone for too long. It's time for some action, lest we lose the fight and have the Revolution stomped on and extinguished forever. With the Fall of Galayar and its subjugation by Deskoslovakian Imperialists under their Marionette Government of Otto Silberbauer, we stand as the only Socialist nations that can oppose this Reacionary tide in Coldonia. Rossiean and Divankhaban together shall stand as the Bulwark of Socialism. We propose a Treaty of Mutual Support, Friendship, and Cooperation between the Union of Socialist States of Rossiean and the Socialist Federal Republic of Divankhaban! Such a treaty wishes to open, strengthen, and maintain cooperation between our states regarding political, military, economic, and social objectives such as Joint Economic Projects and Investments, Joint Military Exercises, Development of Armament and Armies, Creation of the Socialist Culture of Art, Music, Literature, and Theater, and the creation of counter-organization to the North Sea Pact, one to represent the Socialists across all Coldonia, the Socialist International. Therefore, we agree with your proposition and hope to open many more in the future. Long Live Sergei, Long Live the Revolution!!!"

From the Government of the United Socialist States of Rossiean

The 1969 GAF Racing Season: Formula 1, Race One, Smilets Circuit

PROLOGUE

Every country has a national sport, there is no doubt about that. Southern Coldonians such as the Oncadians and Monpravians have Calcho, and Northern Coldonians like the Aetheodish have Rugby. But what about the Eastern Coldonians, the Pravs? Well, that is a more complex answer, one that requires some historical background to understand. When the Pravs were subjugated by the Uotors all the way back in the early Medieval Age, the concept of horseback riding, while nothing new to the Pravs, was popularized after this event, and this included things such as horseback sports. While one explored the various Pravic kingdoms, it became easy to notice just how important the horse was to them, as it was almost a deity-like animal that was an important way to show the prestige and wealth of someone. Nobles, warriors, and even kings often participated in sports that involved horses, such as archery and racing. And so as to accommodate their bourgeois needs and desires, these powerful men built the necessary infrastructure for these activities, such as rings and breeding grounds. While nowadays, most of these racing rings are now gone and completely buried due to age and natural processes, their legacy has remained an important part of Pravic culture, even to this day.

When the Schweits invented the automobile in the late 19th century, the concept of Pravic racing remained relatively unchanged, as most people saw cars as unreliable machines for the wealthy that would never properly replace horses, and so, for a while, horse racing remained relatively unchanged even in an era with many technological and societal changes like the Pax Monpravica. However, that would all change with the creation of the assembly line and the introduction of cheap automobiles being pushed by the Aetheodish with companies such as Broad Motors. Suddenly, the concept of owning an automobile became accessible to the working class, and as a consequence of this, governments all over the world started creating the necessary infrastructure so as to make sure this push towards complete automobile ownership became a reality and would be as smooth of a process as possible.

This rapid change almost immediately affected racing in Pravic lands. While not as industrialized or as developed as their Theodic or Gladian neighbors, the Pravic upper class in countries such as Styldavia and Galayar enthusiastically adopted the automobile for their sporting escapades. The first-ever properly organized auto race in Eastern Coldonia, which was also the first endurance race, took place in the Styldavian city of Marson in 1895. The race, while plagued by mechanical failures and horrible weather due to poor planning, was eventually won by driver Yaroslav Levchuk and co-pilot Leonid Matviyenko in a custom-made car made by Levchuk. After this event and with the help of media attention, slowly but surely, auto racing became more and more popular not only in Styldavia and Galayar but also in other, faraway countries such as Oncadia and Aetheodaland.

Fast-forwarding some decades and shortly before the Great War, auto racing had cemented itself as the sport that represented all Pravs. While not as accessible as Calcho and Rugby due to the costs of buying and repairing a racing car and the inherent danger the sport had, the governments of both Styldavia and Galayar made sure to encourage and involve themselves in the construction of circuits, the propping up of racing teams, and the creation of industrial complexes for the research and development of new advancements in automobiles. This government backing, while briefly retired due to the Great War which had diverted focus from civilian projects to military ones, caused the creation of a Golden Era in auto racing which started in the late 40s and early 50s and has only continued to expand and grow since.

At the beginning of the Golden Era of Pravic Auto Racing, Styldavia was the dominant nation, with many of its drivers (Stanislav Orlivkov, Yuri Vlasenko) and manufacturers/teams (ProAvto, Belz) winning several driver and manufacturer's championships in and out of Styldavia. The dominance of Styldavia in this era is sometimes understated, and an example that demonstrates just how good the Styldavians were at this was Orlivkov's victory at the 1959 8 Hours of Istra, where the ProAvto Kanareika (named this way due to its bright yellow color scheme and aerodynamic coachwork) driven by the Kyrih native managed to win the race 7 laps ahead of the second place driver, Abel Newsholme. However, due to several events outside of auto racing such as politics and economics, Galayar began to rise through the ranks and catch up to its Eastern neighbor in auto racing. Just two years later, in 1961, Nikola Kosenov drove to the finish line and won at the 8 Hours of Istra in his now-iconic colorful Samotino Type 60, much to the dismay and shock of the Styldavian crowd. The Type 60 was powered by a 3-liter V12, and while theoretically the fastest car on the grid, it was almost beaten by the very competitive Belz B99 driven by Yuri Vlasenko. In what is seen as one of the most pivotal and exciting moments in the history of auto racing, Vlasenko and Kosenov were engaged in one of the fiercest and closest battles while fighting for the lead, and was only won out by Kosenov due to the Type 60's slightly better speed and handling in the curves. At the end of the day, the less than half a lap lead Kosenov managed to achieve won him the race, but with this, an all-out racing war had broken out between the new rivals: Samotino and Belz.

The creation of this new rivalry and the extremely close finish managed to give a new massive boost of popularity and new media attention to the sport, and it seemed that the Styldavian Dominance was being challenged by Galayarese teams and manufacturers and could potentially lead to some of the greatest racing in the world. Unfortunately, all of this was cut short due to the False Revolution in Galayar that very same year, which led to the cutting of ties between the Galayarese and Styldavian governments. While many hoped that racing between the two nations could continue even after the straining of political relations, the SAF, the Styldavian Automobile Federation, pressured by its home country's government, was forced to also cut ties with its Galayarese equivalent. During this period of isolation, the popularity of the sport, while still strong, declined by quite a bit due to the sore disappointment of the fans who had expected the development of the new Galayarese-Styldavian rivalry in auto racing. This period was also marred by the death of several drivers in the sport, Styldavian and Galayarese alike, such as Danylo Dobrovolsky and Vitomir Castex. Dobrovolsky's fatality at Viktar Circuit in 1963 was especially brutal and impactful since his crash caused the car to go airborne, burst into flames, and explode while it collided with the crowd, killing him and 19 unlucky spectators. The "Viktar Disaster" as it was named by the Styldavian press had a lot of negative consequences on the sport, as it made some brands pull out of the sport, some even in a permanent manner, and also damaged racing's reputation and popularity as a sport where families, its main spectator demographic, could relax and have a good time while watching their favorite drivers. This panic led to less profits and fewer drivers in racing, causing a sort of Dark Age for the sport, but also led to the research and implementation of new safety measures in circuits and cars alike. The concept of a Dark Age was further augmented by the outbreak of the Galo-Styldavian War a year later, causing many of the remaining brands and teams in both countries to dedicate themselves fully to the war effort and sidelining the research and production of new racing cars.

While the mid-60s were certainly not the best era for auto racing around the world due to these events and several more tragedies, not everything was lost. After the end of the Galo-Styldavian War in 1965 and the subsequent democratization of Galayar, both nations reestablished diplomatic relations, and shortly after, both the SAF and the GAF reestablished and even further expanded their ties and collaboration. A year later, in 1966, the GAF revealed three new premium categories/regulations for its schedule: Stock Cars (Group 6), two-seater Racing Cars (Group 7), and the most prestigious of them all: the Galayarese Formula 1 Championship (Group 8). These three new categories were the result of the fusion of many, lesser and more regional categories as an effort to regularize and standardize racing in post-war Galayar to make it easier for drivers, teams, manufacturers, and sponsors to gain more reputation, experience, and resources. In the inaugural 1966 Season for these categories, it was demonstrated that motorsport had recovered and that it was truly here to stay. Many old stars from both nations returned to the sport, and even some new faces showed up, such as Broad Motors, who had previously only raced in its home nation's racing series. The success was so grand that the racing spotlight overnight was transferred from Styldavia and directly to Galayar, and became a symbol of Galayar's economic miracle and recovery after the devastating war which greatly affected it and its neighbor.

And now, in the present year of 1969, all statistics and predictions show that this year's season will be the biggest as of yet. Before 1969, a strict limit on the number of foreign drivers on the starting grid was something to keep in mind, which specified that only a third of the drivers on the grid were allowed to be from other countries. However, starting from this season onwards, this restriction has been completely lifted, and even more funding and marketing have been given to the sport not only by the GAF but also by the Galayarese government. This has caused a tremendous change in the demographics of the drivers, teams, and manufacturers, especially in Formula 1. In 1968, the designated quarter was made up of foreign drivers, but for the first 1969 F1 race at Smilets, it seems that over half the field, a field which is also the largest so far, will be foreign. This signifies a lot of things, but it especially symbolizes that Galayar, a nation that just some years ago was the world's biggest geopolitical pariah state, is now one of the most prestigious sporting venues, not only for motorsport but also for other sorts of sports.

THE 1969 SMILETS GALAYARSE FORMULA 1 GRAND PRIX, FEBRUARY 22ND

On the first installment of the 1969 Galayarese Formula 1 season at Smilets, the first thing that caught the attention of many before the start of qualifying was the absolutely radical design of the cars that were about to race. For example, Dennis Paddox, the first driver who attempted to qualify, was driving an Excelsior V8-powered Fridson FS9 which had a whopping two aerofoil high wings, one at the front and one at the back. This seemingly unconventional design from the Fridson team gave the car an incredible amount of downforce and handling capacity, especially around the 11 tight turns of the 2.1-mile circuit. These extreme aerodynamics, while nothing new for Formula 1, have become quite popular among manufacturers and teams in recent years, and it seems this season will be when they go to the next level. Paddox set a time of 1:09.8, and it seems that will be the time to beat for basically everyone during qualifying day.

This season has also been very interesting so far due to the various changes teams have made. For example, Plafus, the Oncadian engine provider for two small teams: Kanizh and Bensen, has temporarily withdrawn from the championship, citing reliability and performance issues for their V8s. This has forced both the Kanizh (Galayar) and Bensen (Schweitser) teams to seek other engine options, and they were gladly answered by Broad Motors, who provided both with their V8s. This has suddenly made the two teams way more competitive and on par with the rest of the field since the Plafus engines had the infamy of breaking down during the middle of the race almost constantly. Another thing that has been seen this season is the usual driver changeups, exchanges, and replacements that happen every season. The most notable of these is the retirement of the Galayarese legend Mitre Krumbeck of the Madara (Galayar) team, who has been replaced by rookie and F2 champion Ruslan Paskalev. Krumbeck cited age reasons for his retirement but said that he will gladly offer his services and knowledge to small teams so they can properly tune their cars so as to be more competitive.

In total, 19 teams/cars managed to qualify for Saturday's race. Sitting in pole position is Valery Onyshchenko of the Myrne (Styldavia) team, who is driving an L4-powered ProAvto 7000 which is very similar in design to the two-winged Fridson FS9. Onyshchenko managed to take the poll from Paddox by only a millisecond, setting a time of 1:09.7. Paddox remained in second place with his time, and Boris Cherganski, a Galayarese privateer with no team who is just making his second start in F1, managed to achieve a time of 1:09.9, giving him an impressive third position during qualifying driving a Tsreshka TR1, a car he himself designed and built, which is powered by a Broad V8.

RACE RESULTS (Only drivers who gained points are shown):

1. Dennis Paddox, Aetheodaland, Fridson-Excelsior, Finished 80 Laps, 9 Points for the Championship
2. Éloi Mayet, Oncadia, Nitting-Excelsior, Finished 80 Laps, 7 Points for the Championship
3. Valery Onyshchenko, Styldavia, ProAvto, Finished 80 Laps, 5 Points for the Championship

6. Boris Cherganski, Galayar, Tsershka-Broad, Finished 80 Laps, 2 Points for the Championship
7. Nikifor Hassloch, Galayar, Samotino, Finished 80 Laps, 1 Point for the Championship

The Aetheodish driver Dennis Paddox managed to get away with the win on this first race of the championship, while Mayet, who started 5th, managed to achieve an extremely close 2nd place. Due to a rather poor pit stop during the last few laps of the race, Onyshchenko dropped to third place, while Cherganski dropped to 6th due to a slower and safer pace during the race. The surprise for this race was the 4th place finish for the Zao team, who come from the faraway lands of Solusland. Represented by Noriaki Katashina, the Solish driver managed to snag a 4th place finish in his F1 debut, and this result will surely please the higher-ups of Zao, who are looking forward to expanding both their civilian and racing markets in Coldonia. The race was broadly reported on by the Aetheodish press, who congratulated both Ross and Paddox for their excellent performances and wished them luck on the next races of the Championship.

DOWNFALL

After the disastrous counter-insurgency operation, known as Operation End, which resulted in the deaths of 18,500 Cresrian soldiers and many others missing, protests erupted across the nation. Families and friends of the missing soldiers took to the streets, demanding answers and accountability from the government. The once-unshakeable Blue Iron Cross Party, led by President James Gèle, found itself under immense pressure as public trust eroded. The party's failure to provide clear information about the fate of the missing soldiers only fueled the anger and frustration of the populace.

The Blue Iron Cross Party struggled to maintain its authority as the protests grew in size and intensity. Demonstrators began calling for the resignation of President Gèle and an end to the party's dominance. The military's failure and the government's mishandling of the situation led to a significant loss of confidence among citizens.

As the political landscape shifted, opposition parties gained momentum by capitalizing on public discontent. Key political figures within the Blue Iron Cross Party began to distance themselves from President Gèle, sensing the changing tides of public opinion. The party's grip on power weakened, setting the stage for a possible political upheaval. The once-dominant Blue Iron Cross Party now faced an uncertain future, with its authority and influence hanging by a thread.
